Privacy Policy

(As of January 23, 2020)

As the leading travel company for LGBTQ+ women, we at The Olivia Companies, LLC, want you to feel comfortable visiting, exchanging information on, and enjoying the experience on Olivia.com (the “Site”). We realize the importance of feeling safe online and are fully committed to protect your privacy in accordance with this Privacy Policy. Our Privacy Policy below outlines the type of information we typically request of you while you are on the Site as well as ways in which we process and, sometimes, disseminate information collected from you. You are free to use the majority of our Site without providing any personally identifiable information (“Personal Data”).

Due to the internet's rapidly evolving nature, Olivia may need to update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If so, Olivia will post its updated Privacy Policy on our Site, located at Olivia.com, so you can always be aware of what Personal Data we may collect and how we may use this information. Olivia encourages you to review this Privacy Policy regularly for any changes. Your continued use of this Site and/or continued provision of Personal Data to us will be subject to the terms of the then-current Privacy Policy.

Information that Olivia collects and how it is used

1. Membership Registration

In order to provide many of Olivia's features, tools, and services for you to use—for example, profiles, access to special services such as personal messaging, member pages, special offers, and sweepstakes—we ask you to register to become a member. This is necessary so that Olivia can assure the quality of the experience. Registration is free. During this member registration process, we will ask you for Personal Data, such as your name, email address, mailing address, zip code, country, gender, birthdate, and age, as well as a member or screen name and password. In addition, you may choose to provide Olivia with additional information including marital status, household income, education, and employment status.

Olivia uses the registration information it gathers to understand more about our audience's interests, respond to your requests, communicate with you, and give you a better experience when visiting our Site by personalizing tools, content, services, and email messages. Olivia also uses this information to build new services and develop offers that Olivia believes are more relevant and valuable to you.

The Personal Data collected in member registration forms by Olivia is also used to create aggregated portraits of the Olivia audience, portraits that present anonymous statistical demographic information without any Personal Data. This aggregated information is used to determine trends and needs, and also to supply market research to potential advertisers and partners to help them understand the Olivia audience. For example, we may create a report that tells advertisers that 10% of our members in a certain age range live on the West Coast, so that they can determine which of their products or services are most appropriate for our members.

2. Electronic Newsletters and Reminders

Olivia offers free electronic newsletters. If you choose to subscribe to any newsletters, currently the only Personal Data you will be required to provide is a valid email address.

In order to better understand how we collect and disseminate information, please carefully review the content below.

3. Surveys and Polls

Our surveys ask for opinions on various issues, and sometimes these surveys and polls are sponsored by or associated with Olivia advertisers and partners. Occasionally, we may request demographic information (like zip code, age, or gender). Information obtained through surveys and polls is used internally to improve our Site and services and also used and disclosed in an aggregated form, in a manner that does not personally identify you.

"Send This to a Friend" and Postcard Service

Olivia offers the ability to forward information on the site to another person via email or to send an electronic postcard. If you use either of these services, we will use the recipient's email address in order to send the information or postcard and we will also ask for your email address. In the case of postcards, both email addresses may be stored so that we can ensure the postcard is delivered and the recipient can retrieve it. We do not use the recipient's email address for any other purpose unless such recipient gives us permission to do so.

5. Information Collected by Olivia Through IP Address and Cookies

IP Address

Your IP address is a number that is assigned by your ISP (internet service provider) to your computer to identify its location. We use your IP address to help diagnose problems with our server and to administer this Site.

Cookies

Our Site uses a feature of your browser to set a "cookie" on your computer. Cookies are small packets of information that a website's computer stores on your computer. Olivia can then read the cookies whenever you visit the Site. We use cookies to save your password so you don't have to reenter it each time you visit our Site, to deliver content and advertising specific to your interests, to provide social media features, and to analyze our traffic. We also share information about your use of our site with our trusted social media, advertising, and analytics partners. You have consented to our cookies when you use this website.

6. Information Collected by Third-Party Advertising Companies

Our advertising is currently served by third-party advertising companies, which deliver a cookie to you so the ads you see can be tracked and ensure that you are not shown the same ad too many times. Because the third-party advertising companies tag your computer with only a number, they know nothing about who you are. Olivia does not provide these third-party advertising companies with any Personal Data. However, these companies may use non-Personal Data about your visits to Olivia.com and other sites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you.

7. Disclosure

Olivia does not sell or otherwise share your Personal Data with unaffiliated third parties without your consent (via “Opt In and Opt Out” as set forth below), except in the following instances: (i) if required by applicable law or pursuant to a court or similar order or to assist in an investigation; (ii) as deemed necessary, in Olivia's discretion, to protect the legal rights or the property of Olivia, a member, or third party, or to prevent personal injury; and/or (iii) in the event Olivia is required to transfer Personal Data to a third party in the event of a sale, merger, assignment, joint venture, or other transfer or disposition of a portion or all of the assets or stock of Olivia or its affiliated entities (including, without limitation, in connection with any bankruptcy or similar proceedings). Olivia may share aggregate non-personally identifiable information with third-party partners and advertisers.

8. Opt In and Opt Out

When Olivia collects your Personal Data, Olivia will ask you to opt in to receive special offers and information from Olivia, but you will have the ability to opt out whenever you choose. Additionally, if Olivia wants to share information with a third party, Olivia will ask you to opt in to such sharing and you will be informed which privacy policy (ies) will control the collection and dissemination of the information provided if different from this Privacy Policy. If you have opted in to such sharing, Olivia’s advertisers and partners may ask you for additional information in order to provide you with access to goods, services, and tools, but you will have the ability to opt out of further sharing of your information with Olivia partners and advertisers whenever you choose.

9. Managing Preferences and Withdrawing Consent

Olivia provides you with the ability to access, correct, or change certain information in your member account at any time, including contact information or other information you've provided to us.

Olivia will retain your Personal Data for as long as you maintain an account or as otherwise necessary to provide you with the services offered through our site. We will also retain your Personal Data as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When we no longer need to process your Personal Data for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy, we will delete your Personal Data from our systems. Where permissible, we will also delete your Personal Data upon your request. Information on how to make a deletion request can be found here.

10. How We Protect and Secure Your Information

Access to or viewability of any of your private member information requires the use of your password. We recommend that you do not share your password with anyone.

We may employ procedural and technological security measures, consistent with industry practice, that are reasonably designed to help protect your Personal Data from loss, unauthorized access, and accidental disclosure, alteration, or destruction. Olivia may use tools, such as firewalls, to help prevent unauthorized access to your Personal Data.

11. Guidelines Regarding Children and Teenagers

Olivia recognizes the privacy interests of children, and we encourage parents and guardians to take an active role in their children's online activities and interests. This Site is not intended for children under the age of 17 years. Olivia does not target its services or this Site to children younger than 17 years. Olivia does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from minors under the age of 17 years.
