Travel That Gives Back: Olivia’s Forest in Nepal
Every Olivia trip creates joy, connection, and climate action. Through our partnership with Trees4Travel, we’re helping reverse the damage of deforestation by planting a forest in a region that needs it: Nepal.
Forests play a vital role in maintaining the health of our planet. They clean our air, regulate water cycles, preserve biodiversity, and absorb around 30% of global CO₂ emissions. But they’re disappearing at an alarming rate. By restoring these natural carbon-capturing systems, we’re not only helping to stabilize the climate but also supporting communities and ecosystems that depend on forests for their survival.
A Forest That Grows More Than Trees
Known for its breathtaking landscapes and rich biodiversity, Nepal has lost more than 70% of its forests due to decades of deforestation. The impact is felt not just in the environment, but in people’s lives. Especially by women in rural communities who often face limited job opportunities and social restrictions.
The Olivia Travel Forest, located in Nepal’s Bardiya District, is helping to change that. So far, we’ve planted 19,524 trees, expected to remove 3,204 tons of CO₂ over their lifetimes.
The reforestation work brings life-changing impact to the communities that plant and care for these forests. Approximately 50% of the reforestation team members are women, many of whom gain steady income, social standing, and new opportunities through this work.
At the heart of this effort is Rachhya Kayastha, Country Director of Eden Reforestation Projects Nepal. Born in the Himalayan region, Rachhya began her journey with Eden in 2016 as a field officer and became Eden Nepal’s director in 2018.
Her leadership is grounded in collaboration and equity, with a vision to restore harmony between human habitation and the natural world. Under her guidance, the project has grown into a beacon of environmental and social progress.
This reforestation initiative aligns with nine United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including gender equality, climate action, and poverty alleviation. It’s a model rooted in dignity and long-term care.
The Jeri Umble Grove
Within the Olivia Travel Forest is a place especially close to our hearts: the Jeri Umble Grove, a 1,000-tree tribute to our beloved Senior Director of Customer Care. Jeri brought warmth, humor, and a deep sense of community to every Olivia experience.
Every tree in her grove is a symbol of her legacy and the joy she brought to so many of you, our travelers. Her legacy now lives on as part of a forest that nurtures the planet and the people who care for it.
Your Trip. Your Trees. Our Shared Impact
Every time you travel with Olivia, you help grow this forest. And whether you join us once or many times, your trees are part of something bigger—a global movement toward climate restoration and responsible travel.
Want to deepen your impact? You can plant more trees, contributing to a greener future.
Let’s keep growing something beautiful—together
