Hey Jeana - I think you'll be very surprised just how flexible cruises are. You can do as much or as little as you want. Of course, the only "requirement" is that you be ON the ship when it leaves port. The rest is really up to you. I've been on many cruises, but the Olivia cruises are the BEST....I think it's the company I enjoy so much. On our last cruise we were talking to one of the room attendants who said when the Olivia cruises become available they actually fight (figuratively of course) to get signed up for those cruises. She said that the women on the Olivia Cruise are SO MUCH MORE kind to the staff and treat them like people, not servants. That just made me smile.
Bottom line - no required functions except the Fire Drill when we first get on....and to be ON the ship when it leaves port. There are 2 dining times in the evening, but if that doesn't fit your schedule there are lots of other times and places to eat as well. You'll have all the FREE time you want, and all the ALONE time you may may need. However, if you're looking to make friends, have a quick chat with someone or explore on your own, it's all there for you.
I hope you enjoy it!
