Set overlooking Lake Malaren, the Sheraton is less than a one mile radius from many of the city’s attractions including City Hall, Old Town, the Central Train Station, Ice Bar and the Royal Palace. INCLUDED STOCKHOLM HIGHLIGHTS TOUR (FULL DAY)
Get on the bus as we hit the highlights of this historic city. We will visit Stockholm’s Stadshus (City Hall), one of the best known symbols of the city. Renowned for its architecture, City Hall is the site of the Nobel Prize Banquet. The Noble Banquet is held in the Blue Hall, and after dinner the dancing takes place in the Golden Hall decorated with more than 18 million glass and gold mosaic pieces.
We will continue on to Gamla Stan (Old Town), where we will get to know Stockholm’s oldest and coziest quarter. Listen to the stories of “Sweden once upon a time,” as you stroll along narrow streets, past twisty alleys and cobbled squares. This area is filled with boutiques, art galleries and antique shops. We will have some free time for lunch or shopping or both.
From there we will pass through the city center to the island of Djurgarden, regarded as Stockholm’s outdoor recreation center and home of the Vasa Museum. The Vasa is the only preserved seventeenth-century ship in the world, and a unique art treasure. The 69 meter-long warship sank in the middle of Stockholm on its maiden voyage in 1628, and was salvaged 333 years later in 1961. The Vasa has been painstakingly restored to its original glory and is decorated with hundreds of original carved sculptures. The most visited museum in Scandinavia, the Vasa Museum uses this unique ship as the centerpiece to tell the story of 17th century seafaring Scandinavia.
