About Our Destination

Canada uses the Canadian Dollar. We suggest bringing about $100-$200 Canadian per person to use for tipping hotel staff and bellman in Winnipeg and Churchill or buying small items while in Churchill. Most shops/restaurants in Winnipeg and Churchill accept major credit cards. Olivia TIP: You will definitely want cash for the most amazing bakery items in the best bakery in Churchill, “Gypsy’s”.
The national languages of Canada are French and English. English is the common language in Winnipeg and Churchill.
The climate in October ranges from 9°F to 28°F (-12°C to -2°C) in Churchill. The wind chill factor can make it feel much colder.

Now more than ever it’s extremely important to think about the unexpected. It is important to purchase the travel protection within 15 days of your initial invoice date in order to receive the most comprehensive coverage. Consider travel protection for Trip Cancellation/Trip Interruption, Emergency Medical and Emergency Evacuation, Trip Delay, Baggage Delay and more.

For a travel insurance quote, more information or to purchase a protection plan, please call Olivia at 800-631-6277 and select option 1 for a travel consultant.

Travel and arrival

Where to fly into/out of
You will need to fly into and out of Winnipeg, Manitoba (YWG). We encourage all passengers to arrive a day early into Winnipeg to avoid the stress of unexpected delays.
Suggested arrival/departure times
All flights should be scheduled to arrive in Winnipeg, Manitoba at or before 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2015. Departures from Winnipeg on October 23, 2015 (or on October 27, 2015 if on our stretcher) can be scheduled to depart anytime.
Preferred travel agency
We are happy to partner with a full service travel agency, Panorama Travel. They provide excellent service for competitive airfares (business class and economy), additional transfers or hotels/tours outside of Olivia offerings. A $50 per person charge will be assessed for a consultation to discuss travel needs and airfare. This amount will be applied to your overall costs should you decide to use their services. A service fee will be assessed according to the amount of travel booked. For an additional fee, they can also assist you with using your frequent flyer miles for free tickets and upgrades. You can reach them at 800-523-0093 or 503-682-6800.
Luggage Allowances:
Polar Bear Main Adventure Program
On your flight from Winnipeg to Churchill, you can bring up to 2 checked bags per person (for a TOTAL combined weight of no more than 70 lbs.) and a carry-on (up to 20 lbs.). Our flight to Churchill is on a standard airline with regular under-the-seat and overhead storage. Any additional luggage/weight will be charged for by the airline. Soft-sided luggage is preferred as it fits easier under your bunk bed at the Tundra Hotel. However, there is no size limitation for the luggage. What cannot fit under the bed can stand up next to it.

You will be wearing your warm clothes “gear” on the flight from Winnipeg to Churchill as you will need it when you arrive in Churchill. Jacket, boots, ski pants, mitts – dress in layers!
Photo Expedition Stretcher
Those who are going on to the Photo Expedition Stretcher, you MUST have a soft sided duffle bag (no more than 50 lbs. TOTAL), and you will carry your hand-luggage on your lap on flight from Churchill to Sea River Lodge. These are chartered planes that carry 8-9 people per plane (No overhead or under-the-seat storage). If you have additional luggage above the maximum, it can be stored at our hotel in Churchill, October 22-26.
