The largest town on the Istrian peninsula, Rovinj is a site to see, with a rugged coastline, 19 islands and a pedestrian-only town center rich with history and culture. For the art savvy, be sure to see Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper, located inside the baroque cathedral, Saint Euphemia’s Basilica. History buffs can learn about the history of Istria by walking the streets of the town, taking in the Venetian, Baroque and Austro-Hungarian architecture. If you like to be active, rent a bike or walk along the country paths that show you the greener side of the town.

- Split offers something for everyone, including history buffs, fashionistas and foodies. While it is best known for its over 700-year old Roman palace, Diocletian's Palace, the city also offers some of the best galleries, markets, shops and cafes in all of Europe. Don't miss the seafood market, located on Marmontova near the shoreline. And check out the vegetable market for a fantastic lunch alternative. Be sure to visit any of the city's pekara, or bakeries, for pastries and baked goods. Locals speak English, French, and German.

The medieval-era Old Town (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) is a walled city, and you can walk the 1.3-mile stretch some 80 feet above ground level for spectacular views of the narrow, cobblestone streets where pedestrians stroll from shop to shop, dine, and drink at al fresco cafes. If you're looking for a day of relaxation, simply sit and watch the world go by amid red-roofed stone buildings and the sparkling, aqua Adriatic Sea.

- Windswept Mykonos, known as the gay & lesbian hotspot in Greece, is just over 40 square miles of rugged terrain dotted with granite stone, windmills and blinding white-washed buildings -- all bordered by beach and backlit by blue skies. It's also one of the most visited of the Greek islands.
Visitors will find their choice of tavernas for al fresco dining, ouzo drinking and people watching, and sandy beaches and scenic views are everywhere -- landmark windmills, unique "cube" architecture, nearby islands (especially Ancient Delos, an archeological marvel accessible by 20-minute boat ride), and luxury yachts bobbing on the light blue Aegean Sea.
