Friends of ours ( a lesbian couple) recently stayed at the Acta Atrium Palace (www. hotel-atriumpalacebarcelona.com).  They loved it.  Does not require pre-payment. 128.70 euros per night, We've booked a room there for two nights post-cruise. It is very centrally located, and the hotel confirmation e-mail was very friendly with informative e-mails regarding what to to in the area, etc.

G'morning Tracy,

Yes, I used to work with good companies that serve small private tours in BCN.  They offer exclusive tours and I can work with them for a tailor made tours 4-5 hours for both of you depending of what kind of experience you want in the city.

You can choose from:

Half-day tours that may include mixed means of transport: Land, Sea and Air.

Riding a bike or be driven in a Mercedes van through our landmarks (Sagrada Familia. Gaudi's builings, Las Ramblas, etc.)

Sail with an eco-boat to enjoy the mediterranean and the skyline of the city

Admire the city from the air, taking the cable car or helicopter, etc.

Or a half-day gourmet tapas experience 4-5 hours walking tour

Or discover the city by yourselves renting a Smart electric car (mini iPad with Navigator, an app with GPS, tourist information, 3G internet connection is included).

Or half-day tours around Barcelona to Monsterrat Monastery, or to Torres cellars an vineyards, shopping, etc.

Drop me an email to: info@gladyschavez.com and let me know your preferred date to schedule the tour, your experience preferences (In or around Barcelona), if you would like to try biking, driving or walking tours, tapas, Gaudí, FC Barcelona soccer club, etc).  If you have any special interest in Barcelona there's no problem to costumize a tour.  No limits.  Once a couple of clients asked me a walking tour in the old city with homeless tour guides I was surprised that they knew about these tours in the city and I must admit that I've never booked these tours before.  All of us were really impressed and happy to help them.  So I don't mind to help with exclusive premium tours or "with purpose" tours. Smile

BTW, when check-in at Hotel Cram let me know so I'd love to invite you to a welcome drink Drinks over there Smile   You'd love staying at the Cram and the Eixample Esquerra neighborhood (We, locals call it the GayEixample district) it is very safe and packed of cozy restaurants and bars and walking distance from the noisy Plaza Catalonia or the crowded Ramblas area.

Regards,

Gladys

I read your advice Gladys -- thank you so much! We are going to stay at Hotel Cram as you suggest. It looks so stylish, love it!  i would like to schedule a tour of barcelona, perhaps 2-4 hours.  Maybe a walking tour.  Do you have any suggestions for a good local tour company ?

thanks!!

Hi!

To see a flamenco show I'd suggest Los Tarantos, it is located in Plaça Reial.

Here's the website for Los Tarantos:

http://www.masimas.com/en/tarantos

To eat tapas we, locals, and some tourists, used to go to La Flauta in Carrer Aribau.  If you go for breakfast or lunch the place is not  packed but if you want to go for dinner, specially on weekends then you have to be a little be patient but it's worth it.  I know them very well because I used to eat at least one day per week over there and used to go with group of friends before going out so if you need a table I can get one for you (send me a private message with the number of people, date, time and I'll be glad to help).  If there's a group and need a ressie, on the second floor they have a sort of private room with 2 large tables. I think you are talking to me about the Renaissance located in Pau Claris, this hotel is just 5 blocks away walking distance from La Flauta. Smile

Here's the tryp advisor fo La Flauta:

Regards from a sunny Barcelona.

So, since you offered to help with questions, Gladys, I have two for you.

Where is the best place to see an authentic Flamenco show not just put on for tourists, but a good performance venue?

And near the Renaissance, where are the best Tapas places, please?

Obviously we have some time.....  but thanks in advance!

Hi Gladys,

Thanks so much for your quick response. Thanks also for the great information. I guess we'll just stay at the H10 Placa Urquinaona. We'll keep close tabs on our personal belongings. We really appreciate your help.

Re: hotel in barcelona ?

Hi Yvonne,

Sorry for my late reply.

H10 Catalunya Plaza is just in front of Plaça Catalunya (great location, indeed), the H10 Urquinaona is not so far from Plaça Catalunya maybe 5 minutes walk distance.

Barcelona downtown is very small.  There are 3 central squares:  Plaça Universitat, Plaça Catalunya (the largest and main one), Plaça Urquinaona, they are linked by the same street.  So you will be OK in both hotels just depends if you like crowded areas and that's what I think you will get for sure if you stay at H10 Catalunya Plaza.

Wherever you stay in downtown please keep an eye on your personal belongings specially when walking down Las Ramblas, Barrio Gotico, or Plaza Catalunya.  This is a safe city but there are pickpockets, street scams and bag thieves as occur in many other cities in the world and of course tourists are the main target.  You will love this city for sure and will want to stay longer or definitely come back again . Smile

Gladys,

Is the H10 Catalunya Plaza Boutique Hotel in a better location to the center of town than H10 Uriquinaona Plaza Hotel. Also, do you know how far from downtown the Uriquinaona Plaza? We have a temporary reservation at the latter of these hotels for one night only.

Any help would be appreciated....Thanks.

In Barcelona you will find so many nice hotels.  Personally, I can suggest Hotel Cram**** (gay friendly hotel) if you want to stay in downtown and enjoy the "gay eixample", that's the nickname given by the locals to the LGBT district (oficially it's called: Eixample Esquerra). Big Smile.  It's just 5 minutes walking distance from Plaça Catalunya, Las Ramblas, Paseo de Gracia, etc.  I know them very well because I used to lodge LGBT customers for private travel at Cram and no complains.  Belongs to SLH Small Luxury Hotels of the World.  Michelin-starred 1* restaurant.
