HI back, Margaret,

We are staying in the Trastevere, really close to the tiber island bridge.  Are you going to be staying near there?  We would love to share a cab if it is feasable,  we will have 4 bags and "purses"

Hi lynn

sorry my mistake we are also doing foodie tour Thursday, 6.15pm. Will also look at your other tours as they sound interesting, even though we have been a few times to rome. Still interested in taxi share for port as we will be getting a taxi anyway, just it will be cheaper if we share.

Hi Lynn,

We are staying at the Westin Excelsior Rome.   In looking at a map, it doesn't look that close to the Trastavere area.  Do you know where I can find information about the train?

Thanks,

Hi Jen-

My wife Sarah and I are doing three days in Rome, but not the stretcher.  Friends have told us about Viator Tour Company.  (www.viator.com).  They are a very reputable tour company, we've been told.

We are planning to book with them for a small group tour of the Vatican, probably on Saturday morning, 7/18.  Check them out on-line, they have a variety of tour offerings in Rome, as well as other parts of Italy.  They offer discounts for booking by 3/31/14.  We also plan to book might do a day long, private car trip with them from Livorna, to Pisa and Florence.

HI Meredith,

We are also going to be in Rome early, but not on the stretcher.  We are staying in the Trastavere area, and if your hotel is close enough, perhaps we would share a car service with you.  Otherwise, we are going to take the train.  Let me know where you are staying, it is getting closer and I always like everything planned as far as transportation goes!

Has anyone found a good way to get from Rome to the port?  Anyone interested in ride-sharing with me and my wife?  We arrive a couple of days early but are not booked on the Stretcher.

If you other half is a history buff then I would say that the must do near Naples is Herculaneum.  Even more so than Pompeii.  The mud has preserved the archaeological record so well that some of the mosiacs and paints look pretty astonishly bright.  Lurid almost.  I've seen underground wall paintings in Roman villas with some classical scholars but even they don't hold a candle to the Herculaneum material.  Sorry can't advise on Pompeii.  Donkey's years since I have been there.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a good tour company (or previous experience) with visiting Pompeii? My wife is a history teacher so this is a "must do" for us (as I've been told). Any thoughts or experiences are very much appreciated.
