Hello Fellow Retirees and Wannabes -
My partner and I are also looking for a place to retire permanently. Like many in our age bracket (late 50's early to mid 60's) we spent most of our lives in the closet and have recently decided that's dead. So, we're starting to look at some of the women's retirement communities here in Washington and Apache Junction, Arizona. For those of you on the east coast, there's Carefree Boulevard in Fort Meyer, which is a really, really nice upscale gated mobile home and RV community. There's also Carefree Cove in North Carolina in the mountains. There are also a couple of very upscale women's retirement developments just outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico, for those who have more money than we have, some in the works in Palm Springs, California for those with even more money than that.
I think we don't want to buy into a retirement community of straight people. We've lived in the closet most of our lives, but we are 'out' now and don't intend to ever go back in. Since we most likely won't have very much in common with others in a straight retirement community we are looking for a women's community and it seems there are precious few - at least that we can afford. If anyone has information on others that I haven't listed, please post them. We're actively looking.
Carol (and Linda).
