Hello Fellow Retirees and Wannabes -

My partner and I are also looking for a place to retire permanently.  Like many in our age bracket (late 50's early to mid 60's) we spent most of our lives in the closet and have recently decided that's dead.  So, we're starting to look at some of the women's retirement communities here in Washington and Apache Junction, Arizona.  For those of you on the east coast, there's Carefree Boulevard in Fort Meyer, which is a really, really nice upscale gated mobile home and RV community.  There's also Carefree Cove in North Carolina in the mountains.  There are also a couple of very upscale women's retirement developments just outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico, for those who have more money than we have, some in the works in Palm Springs, California for those with even more money than that.

I think we don't want to buy into a retirement community of straight people.  We've lived in the closet most of our lives, but we are 'out' now and don't intend to ever go back in.  Since we most likely won't have very much in common with others in a straight retirement community we are looking for a women's community and it seems there are precious few - at least that we can afford.  If anyone has information on others that I haven't listed, please post them.  We're actively looking.

Carol (and Linda).

Thank you so much for your reply.

I'm just now checking my mail on Olivia.

We will definately check out Rehoboth Beach. Could you recommend any websites?

 Thanks again.

Dear Lamplighter,

Congrats on your upcoming retirement and on your obviously sucessful relationship. Although you seem to have settled on the New England area, you might want to consider Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. This is a beautiful, quaint area that has a very active and openly gay community. I like the area because you get all the seasons.  There are plenty of new developments.  It's a great area.  You might want to give it a look.

Good luck.  I hope you find what you're looking for.

Stevie

My Partner (of 25 years) and myself are thinking of retiring to Florida for the winter and New Hampshire (or New England) for the summer. We visited Provincetown, MA last year and truly enjoyed it.

Since we are "not out" (and probably never will be) it was wonderful to be in an 'accepting' environment.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what areas to start looking in Florida or New England?

To begin our search we have rented a home and will be in Fla. (the Sarasota/Port Charlotte area) from November through March of this year. We are trying to stay away from the coast (for our permanent residence) and will start looking in the Central Florida area, North of Orlando for retirement communities.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks ever so much and we look forward to joining one of your "over 55" cruises.

Sincerely,

Lamplighter
