Airplane mode is a setting available on many cell phones, smartphones and other electronic devices that, when engaged, suspends many of the device's signal transmitting functions thereby disabling the device's capacity to place or receive calls or text messages – while still permitting use of other functions that do not require signal transmission (e.g., games, built-in camera, MP3 player).
The name is derived from the fact that it permits the user to operate the device while on board a commercial aircraft while in flight, where the operation of cell phones and other devices that send or receive signals isgenerally prohibited due to the potential impact on aircraft avionics and the potential for interference with ground cell networks. Other names include flight mode, aeroplane mode, offline mode, and standalone mode.

If you don't have a smartphone, you should contact your provider to see if they have a global plan you can temporarily switch to as you may be charged extra for all phone calls, texts sent and texts received if you don't turn off your phone or disable those features. 

Also, remember to call your credit card companies and let them know you will be in Mexico, so your card does not get frozen on you while traveling.

Make copies of your passport, driver lic. and credit cards, leave a copy at home, and have a copy on you, not in your luggage.

Ok, make sure you check with your provider about using your devices while in Mexico.  Unless you want to pay big bucks for just turning your devices on.

 Put your device on airplane mode.  Then you will be able to use your phone camera, use your ipad for reading, and if using your computer, then can do wi- fi setting.  With free internet and free phone calls to the USA, the resort has made it easy for us to connect while we are away.

Just know that even if you turn on your phone to see who called you, you will be charged a bigo fee.  Leaving it on airplane mode, blocks calls, texts, emails,e tc., but if you take it off, BAMMM, prob. looking at a service connect fee of at least 50 bucks or more.

So check with your provider to make sure you are properly informed.
