Hi, Susan and Mary, Cabin 1855, Geocaching handle Big Dogs and Slug Bugs.  We have a Garmin Colorado, but mostly we use the official geocaching ap.  It costs $9.95.  There are quite a few other aps, geobeagle, etc., but I would spring for the "real" one.  The official logo is a square, divided into four different colored quadrants.  Look us up.  We have downloaded all the caches in each of the ports, and we are arriving Friday to pick some up in Vancouver.  See you on board!

I totally agree with you Margie! I love geocaching b/c of all the new places it takes me to! I have seen many new things simple b/c I follow where my GPS leads me...

You are just down the hall from me - I am in 2534...

Would you like me to add you to the Stateroom list for the ship? The choice is yours! Just let me know, b/c I only plan on uploading one more update to the list before the cruise...

What you find can really vary!  Some have only a log book, some have little ticky tacky plastic things, some have trackables and some may even have a lovely geocoin.  For me, what I find is only a small part of caching.  I enjoy the places it takes me and the sometimes awesome creativity in the containers and the way they are hidden. Maybe it is the little girl in me out there hunting for Easter eggs, but I never tire of trying.  I am not out to get huge caching numbers--I just enjoy the fun of it.  And--one of the best parts is meeting other cachers.  I have downloaded caches in each area where we stop and am happy to share those with any of you who are interested.  I would be happy to join up renting a car to go further if anyone is interested.  Also, I read that in Ketchican, we can rent golf carts to get around town.  I think that would be just great.  Is anyone interested in going in on this with me?  My handle is Zelda54 and my name is Margie.  Room 2584--maybe close to you Marcia!!!

i had to do research on this also opened an account on the GEOCHACHING.COM web site,   And I found one without the GPS,(a fluke).   The CACHE is a small or medium sized weatherproof box with a transponder, a log book and generally a nick knack or two that people leave behind or swap out.  The fun is the search/tracking for the Cache box.  The log book allows you to log info of who, when etc that located the box. The box is left in the same place it was found for the next adventurer to find.

The best apps, in my opinion, are the ones by Groundspeak which is associated with Geocaching.com - their app is available for iPhone, Android and Windows phones...

They have the most detail on their cache info, and they have, by far!, the largest geocaching community and cache listing in the world...

Enjoy!

I think if you Google "Geocaching + iPhone" it will tell you what apps are available.

okay, first time to look into Geocaching, have found caches in Fort Worth, by chance,  Okay, received a suspicious package call.  However, my keen senses told me it was harmless...  so, what APP is best for the Iphone, I do not own a stand alone GPS.   I have Theodolite and spyglass, however, I do not see how they would work for this type of activity...Thanks ahead of time...and the clock is ticking as we get closer to trip time....

Thanks Jana! First you tell me that the g/f is , and now you rub this in... WTH!? I thought you liked me - well at least liked my wife! LOL I suppose now you're gonna try and tell me that your comment was posted b/c the g/f was mouse happy again and this was all just b/c her clicker is out of control...

Just remember, it was the luck of sitting next to you that we won this trip as a 2-for-1 - so if you want to blame someone, you should take it up with Jill & Linda - they are the ones who were drawing the tickets that day! So now you are stuck with us!

Hahaha!
