Some people go to great lengths to "smuggled" alcohol on board, though I don't know why.  Maybe it's the thrill of getting away with something "illegal" !  Except for bottled water and soda, wine and champagne, I just don't get it.  I would be mortified if I was caught tring to smuggle something on board that was clearly not allowed.  That's just me though

If you are coming from the U.S much cheaper to bring the two allowed bottles across the border, our taxes are very high on alcohol.

if you planned to buy alcohol in Vancouver take at look at the BC Liquor prices and you will note that HAL offers 1 litre bottles at about the same price as a 750 ml bottle at the store...why risk having it taken away by buying before you board? there is no cost saving only the thrill of trying to get it on board...

Wine is best bought at the store and carried on board...HAL ups the prices considerably so buying in Vancouver a much better deal and there are some great wines to choose from..

Closets Liquor store to port is 555 West Hastings about 1.5 blocks from the Waterfront Skytrain station..

anyway...usually on olivia cruises people bring on their own wine/champagne...water & sodas...but it is always best to check first with HAL or olivia as anything can change at anytime!

alcohol & beer is not allowed to be brought on and is usually taken away and held for you till you get off the ship on the last day...though some do manage to get it on

Except for wine and champagne, guests cannot bring hard alcohol on board for private consumption. Hard alcohol purchased on board in the duty free shops or in port will be collected, stored for safekeeping and delivered to your stateroom on the last day of the voyage.

Guests can bring wine and/or champagne on board at embarkation or purchased in port. A corkage fee of US$18.00 applies to wine and champagne brought to the shipboard restaurants or bars for consumption. Wine and/or champagne brought on board cannot be consumed in any public venue. If a guest is drinking a beverage carried on board and in a public venue they will be asked to return it to their stateroom.
