#1 – spray your footwear outdoors, preferably not while you’re
wearing them.
#2 – spray with the breeze so that you don’t receive a
silicone bath on your face… do not spray if windy.
#3 – bring footwear indoors to dry for the recommended time period
on the can. This will also mitigate theft!
Story behind these tips: In my Girl Scout like preparation
for the possibility of inclement weather on board ship and in port, I sprayed
my sneakers yesterday with a can of weatherproofing. Yes, I have a wee bit of common
sense and so I championed steps #1 and #2 without issue. However, I failed #3
because I left them outdoors to dry for a day and when I arrived home from work
today, one sneaker was missing! Besides for the fact that it poured rain today
and the waterproofing did not hold for sneaker #1…. I suspect that sneaker #2
is on someone’s porch, compliments of a neighborly dog or raccoon or deer or
some person with a sneaker fetish? The insult to injury is that they contained custom
orthotics and so now I must buy new sneakers and have a new pair of orthotics
made before we set sail!
Sorry for the long rant my friends, but I found this
situation to be comical and just wanted to share a laugh! Needless to say, my
partner Michele will never let me live it down!
