everyone I have talked to that have gone to Alaska all recommend #1, Waterproof, #2 sturdy & comfortable.  apparently not only on board will you be doing a lot of walking, but on shore even more!  Also, while at sea you will spend time on deck checking out the scenery (No, not that scenery, the scenery along the shoreline) and most likely will be raining or misting. I found a pair of boots that are very light weight and waterproof (Keen). I wear boots at work in the winter at work and prefer mid-height hikers over the low hikers or sneakers.

That is another idea.... Hikers also come in low and mid.  the low look just like sneakers, except for the tread and can be found in waterproof versions.

we bought hiking boots just for the support and waterproofness of them. But I am just hoping that they will not get too heavy as we walk around in them. I am taking my regular tennis shoes that I wear that are MBT's and spraying them with water repellent just to know I have something comfortable to wear in case the boots get to heavy.  I am kinda thinking like you that as long as I know we are not doing any hiking why do I need hiking boots? But my partner is more worried about our feet getting wet and ruining the whole day. Good luck in your shopping ventures!!
Take care

what ever style you choose, water proof is a must.  might be rain and drizzle.  wet feet will spoil

your day of excursions.

I need shoe advice please.  For those who have been to this climate in the past, is there an absolute need for hiking shoes?  I know that a good supporting shoe will be best but I don't want to be hiking boots that I will most likely not wear again.  Would running shoes or Doc Martens be insufficient?  Excursions are ziplining, hiking and bike riding......
