Ooops, the wife just asked how you were getting from Cape Coral to Vancouver? Flying, of course but route and airline?

We used to live in South Ft. Myers! We are now in Central Florida (Winter Garden) because of family obligations. Gotta' love it, huh? I used to travel through and within Cape Coral for work when we were there. Drove me bonkers until I got used to the grid and those blasted canals! LOL.

 See you on the cruise!

Good info! Thank you for that. I'm going to still try and get her to purchase a pair of sneaker style hikers. She's terrible about buying new things for herself so I take any excuse I can get to push her into something new! Whatever she ends up with will have to be suitable for Florida too.

We just spent some time over the long weekend in Fernandina Beach (very north Fl near the GA border) and she said her feet were cold all weekend. So, if they are cold in Florida, I'm guessing that will be the same in Vancouver in September!

 Appreciate all the help!

I wouldn't worry too much about boots, unless you are planning on some serious hikes.  I live in the same neck of fthe woods (off the West Coast of Canada) and don't get into anything more serious that sneakers all winter.  I have a ratty pair that I drag out for the one or two times a winter that I have to shovel, but in terms of cold..........not to worry.

My wife and I are in Central Florida. We originally moved here to the SW coast (Ft. Myers area) however ended up in Central Florida due to family obligations.

Thanks for the info on "dress."  We are familiar with "White Party!" and still have some clothes from that, but it was a Caribbean party, not an Alaskan one.

Also, on the previous Olivia cruise there was the opportunity to participate in a "marriage" ceremony. I wonder if they will do that on this cruise too.

We brought one dress outfit previously (for us that meant dress trousers and formal jacket tops (mine in velvet, her's in satin). Not dressy women so we are hoping to avoid that sort of thing this time.

My main concern right now is keeping her feet warm! I have boots but she does not have anything warmer than her gym shoes, so we'll have to work on that.

So looking forward to this cruise! Put in my request for vacation yesterday. Let's hope they give it to me or I'm in BIIIIIIG trouble!

Take care "Ladies of Olivia!"

Since Olivia books the entire ship, we will not have the usual dress codes that the cruise line usually invokes.  You can be as causal and as formal as you like.  Casual, I'm guessing, since we'll be in Alaska. They will require clothes and shoes in the dining room LOL. There will be some sort of theme night (s), black and white night, white night, to name a few.  We won't know that until about a month out.  The W. Carribean is having a Mad Hatters Night.  Hope this helps.

Thank you everyone for your help!  We think we've pretty much settled on the train, given all we've read about the complications of driving and parking (and what sense does it make to pay to park when you are on a cruise, for a rental I mean)?

I was asked which port we will be sailing from. I can't find info on that through this site. Does anyone know for certain?

I think we'll go for layers and L.L. Bean. I have low boots already, but my wife does not. She likes the look of the hiking sneakers available through L. L. Bean so that may be our best bet.

We're just too happy by half to be going on another Olivia Cruise!

Info from previous blogs (see different topics below) the best and easiest way to get from Seattle to Vancouver BC is by train.  That seems to be the easiest clearance through customs and is relatively inexpense.  I suspect there will lots of Livians on board the Amtrak so should be a "pre-cruise" experience !!

It's not super cold in Alaska during Sept and depending on the excursions you're taking (sled dog, hiking, etc) this may dictate the cold weather gear you'll want to have.  I think some people have posted links on this subject as well so check those out.  Snow/rain parka/coat and snow boots are probably a must.

There will be more postings as we draw nearer but you may want to hit some post winter sales online and in stores if you can and pick up some needed items now.

Happy planning !

What To Pack For Alaska Cruise Tours|Alaska Cruise Reviews|Alaska Cruise Deals|Compare Alaska Cruise Prices And Availability From 4 Cruise Lines - Royal Caribbean Alaska Cruises, Princess Alaska Cruises, Celebrity Alaska Cruises

well, that was quick, obviously probably dont need everything listed (Evernote is a wonderful tool to have),   And I have not heard anyone mention anything about needing formal or smart casual attire,  Anyone on this blog advise? Do we need formal or smart casual attire?  I have heard on other cruises there is a formal night,  What usually happens on the Olivia cruises?

everyone I have talked to did recommend the water poof jacket/pants and layering of clothes, good walking boots ( I already have a pair of Merrell's boots so they are well broke in) and My rain jacket is a shell with a removable fleece jacket (either can be worn separately), and a pair of rain pants I bought on sale on line.

Let me know what you hear, also...oh, if the link does not work, I will try and cut and paste the important stuff from the article.

I have never been to Alaska or on a Cruise and I live in Texas, although we have very cold weather here (North Central Texas).

i found a site that has info on what to wear etc on a Alaska Cruise, also, this cruise in at the end of the Season so the weather has a tendency to be cooler/colder etc, I know many folks who have been to Alaska on cruises during various times of the season. I will try and find the article and try to send it to you.
