We just bought a new video camera this weekend... It's a Casio Vixia HF M52 Full HD ~ This way we can get fabulous video of the wildlife AND WHEN we see the Northern Lights we can convert some of our video shots into fabulous still photos...
So excited!

It may be too late to get these now for most of use, but just in case (and for future reference)...These are GREAT covers for protecting your camera and lens (and they make some that will fit a flash unit as well). I've used the shower cap method before, and always had trouble with long telephoto lenses. These do the trick, and at ~$9 for 2, they are a bargin as well!

So looking forward to getting on the plane on Friday!!

i know how that happens...put me in a camera store & i walk out with something
here's a quick emergency rain solution that's free...the shower caps that you get in your hotel room...cover everything & put the elastic opening around the end of your lens...works great!
Anyone have experience with the GoPro cameras? Got one for ziplining.
Not taking any chances this time I will be putting the charger in my hand luggage, last time we cruised I put it in our case in the hold, the airline lost our cases. Consequently we didn't have a charger, once the battery had gone that was the end of that. The good news was that our cases were at a neighbour's house when we got home - without any photos.
don't forget to bring extra film/memory cards...batteries and a charger!!!
I'm bringing my Nikon D5000 with regular and telefoto lens...still learning how to use all the features...still quite the amateur. But very excited to get some amazing scenes to photograph! If there is time, i'd be happy to join in on a photography discussion at sea.
