"Good Idea" 

I hear you on that Joyce.  It will probably be 90+ degrees when we leave and I too am wearing my heaviest stuff.  Gonna look funny in the airport with my winter coat, scarf, gloves, hat, and snow boots!  Thinking I should pin a sign on my back that says "Alaska Bound." :)

Do not forget to weigh each bag. United limits to 50lbs per bag. So if you can pack an elephant into a shoe box and it weighs 55 lbs you pay an extra fee unless you carry the elephant on board yourself in the shoe box. Even if it 90 degrees when I leave I am wearing my heaviest coat and shoes.

Here's my long distance tip.  Put it all out and then cut it in half.  (does that help?)

Same issue as Cindy....I put out soooo much and have a very hard time wittling it down. I need that "Master Parcker" real bad.....Soraya is no help as she spends her precious last minutes before we leave packing her own "stuff". She can't seem to get it together any earlier and certainly has NO TIME  to help me!   

Cindy usually puts out what she wants to pack and then I weed it down from there :)  I'm lucky she lets me be the "Master Packer" LOL  If I wasn't she'd have enough for a cruise around the world HAHA

we sound just like you...my GF is always cold & i'm always hot too!
after 3+ years in Maine and 15+ years in Colorado...we have much to choose from!!!

 

Girlfriend is always cold, even in Colorado heat this summer (love you babe) and me, always hot.  So, we'll have a variety from 3-1 winter jackets to shorts and everything in between.  Will check 1 and carry 2.  Thinking this might be the cruise to finally utilize the laundry service !

We agree.  We have  3:1 coats as well, just picked up a nice lightweight rain jacket we can ball up to nothing, plan on bringing a back pack everywhere so I can dress up or down.  Just met a few people who have gone to Alaska in September...Rain gear a must.  It gets quite cold on the deck especially when near the glaciers.  We are going on the pre-stretcher too--we have a few of those convertible quick drying pants think we may bring.  Is everyone planning on dressing up for all those nights?  I am having a hard enough time figuring out what layers to bring --I don't know if I can fit 20's wear.     Regarding laundry,  We won a trip to africa a couple of years ago and were only able to bring a 22inch duffle bag so we had to use the laundry services and hand washing.  The laundry service was worth it.  Pack the least possible and do laundry--best way to travel!!  

Packing light for an O/s flight, going to look good in my flapper dress with thermal leggings and a ski cap! lol

Speaking to acquaintence in Juneau, dress in layers, layers, layers.  We will have everything from 3-1 LL Bean coat/jacket, to rain slickers, gloves, scarfs, jeans, fleece, shorts and T's.  One of us gets cold, the other is always hot.  Would rather pack those kinds of layered clothing and not use them than have to find and buy them in port. 

I reckon it'll be pretty comfortable. I've just got one hoody, a thick cotton waterproof carhartt zip up with a hood and a thin Parker sort of thing. 

 Got no gloves or scarves or any of that stuff. 

Thats what vodka is for. Warm the extremities.  

There are usually laundry bargains you can do…"all you can stuff in a bag" and "laundry by the week"…I don't recall the prices…but way cheaper than by the piece!

 

Since everyone tolerates temps different…it's hard to say what's cold for everyone. It can get cold touring the glacier…and outside on the deck at night while cruising…but during the day (if it's not raining) the afternoons can be cool & quite pleasant!

 

As it has been said…prepare to dress in layers. 

We usually bring on an Alaska cruise (besides our regular day clothes) a light-weight fleece jacket and/or a fleece vest…a good windproof/rainproof jacket (we have brought rain pants but have yet to use them on a cruise)...and slip-resistant waterproof shoes.

When cruising the glacier a hat or cap is good and so are light-weight gloves…remember when you get cold…you can always go inside to warm up…then go back out to view nature!

   Does anyone have an idea of just how cold it might be?  Are we talking hat and glove weather ?  As Suede has posted from former alaska cruises.....woolies and shorts should be both packed.  Think I will bring my silk liners to wear as a layer should it be that cold to avoid bringing every thermal henley I own......lol
