There is a hot tub on the boat, so you might want a swimsuit for that.

Jeans are a big part of our wardrobe for this trip....and layers on top.

I am so used to going on tropical vacations I am having a hard time packing for this vacation.  Are jeans appropriate?  I looked at weather.com and it looks like the warmest day is going to be 60 and the coolest low temp is 41.  I am always cold, I guess I will be packing sweatshirts and a warm jacket...forget that bathing suit  lol

Yes, underwear, definitely!  We're packing underwear for every day of our trip.  (We don't like to send our underwear to the laundry on the ship.)

Bev & I always overpack on any Olivia vaca. You two will be our inspiration. Don't know if I have enough self-control for a 5 day suitcase but I might be able to do 8 as long as I get to wear clean underwear everyday!

Ok, so this weekend is "crunch" time for us, we plan to pack.  It is okay that I am dreading having to make these choices??  And isn't it wonderful that the only worries I seem to have about an Olivia vacation is my packing?

Joan and Jeri - that is actually a really good idea!  Pack for a 5 day trip . . .  I love it.  I will try it out! I mean, there's always laundry service, right? Even though I try to be a good resource, I still pack way too much, even after all these trips. Instead, I've just learned to have really good luggage, with really good wheels :-)

Our latest scheme for lightening our load.....

This time, we're packing for a 5-day trip...even though we're going on a 12-day trip.

We've tried numerous ways to trick ourselves into packing light....and still brought way too much stuff.

I think this might be the trip that we do it!

Well, funny you ask as we were just discussing this with some other guests.  If you go to www.weather.com, it will give you a 30 day forecast. In years past, the weather has ranged from low to high 50's and 60's, to low 70's.  Dress in layers, and be prepared for rain just in case. There were days when we were bundled up in scarves and mittens and were prepared with rain gear for light showers, and other days when the sun came out and we were in shorts and t-shirts!  You just never know.  I suggest you check weather.com a few days before departing, and get the week's outlook for the best recommendation!

We've also had good success in going on other cruises with one carry on, one suitcase (that does not need to be checked) and doing laundry on board the ship.  As already said, we felt it was well worth the price.

Another good reason for packing light and doing laundry on the boat.....

When we get home, we won't have so much stuff to unpack.....and so much laundry to do when we unpack our bags!

I don't know about others.....but some parts of our house are quite the mess when we unpack our bags from a trip.

Mel, that IS a great idea! I wonder if I can talk my wife into cutting back on the amount of clothes she plans on bringing? LOL We'll see! I would much rather do something like this also!

Glad we could inspire you!  I hope this works out for all of us.  If it goes over well, we'll be doing the same thing in August on the Danube trip.

I remember walking to the hotel from Centraal Station and the wheel on one of our large suitcases broke.  Thank goodness we were super close to the hotel that time, but the trip back home was hell.  You would've thought we learned our lesson, but we took the other "good" large suitcase on the Alaska cruise that same year and, of course, that one broke as well.  And this stuff wasn't cheap, mind you.

Never again.
