Hi Jo - I am not ignoring you :-) I have asked them the question and  I am waiting for a response. As soon as I hear back, I will let you know.  I think it's great you want to make a cash donation - they will use it where it is needed most!

The kids are VERY excited about our arrival, and they are preparing a song and dance just for us. And do you want to know what is even cooler? They ALL know we are Lesbians, and it didn't phase them one bit!  I love it. We are doing such a service to the community, and to who we are as people. Yeah for us! So thanks for anything you are willing to give.

:-)Jill

Hi Jill,

Thanks for organizing all of this.  We'd prefer to make cash donations especially with security, and the baggage restrictions and fees that the airlines charge.   Although a few packages of pens, pencils, crayons, etc. aren't too difficult to bring.  What is the best way to donate money?  Cash? Check for each group or one combined check?  To whom do we make the checks out to?

We're excited about the trip and can't wait!

p.s.  We shoveled snow again today....so way ready to be in warm sunshineCool

There are 2 schools and one group of children who are in Wheelchairs that we are supporting in these efforts. All of them are connected in some way.  While we are in Quepos, representatives from all 3 groups will come on board.  The children have prepared a song for us, and the adults/teachers and supporters will be there to show a short slide presentation about their schools and where the donations are going.  We have also invited them to join us for our Deck BBQ that evening.  The schools have made a "field trip" of this. All of the donations will be presented to the groups from all of us, divided up appropriately.

They have asked that most of the school suppplies/electonics go to the San Jose School, the clothing go to the kids outside of Quepos (since the flood really wiped out most of their personal belongings) and any disposible cameras to the kids who are in wheel chairs for thei special project.  Depending on what we get, we can probably still give a few things overlapping to all 3, but we will see.

So, please bring your donations with you to the ship, and once we are on board, we will let you know the central area on board where collections will be made.

Thanks!

Jill

Will there be a drop off place at the hotel for our donations since one of the schools is in San Jose?

I know we are fired up about providing for both the school and the village itself.  It is such a great feeling to have the opportunity to make a difference in someone's life, and will leave us with a feeling of accomplishment before we embark on our phenomenal vacation. No guilt attached, just thanksgiving for our blessings....

Either currency is fine - and we will also have the ability to write checks if you prefer. More to come.

If we do cash, is it better to give US currency or their local currency?

This is very exciting - while researching schools and villages. we have found a contact that can help us reach out to a remote, very impoverished village near Quepos as well as the school we identified in San Jose. They are very excited, and details of logitics are still being worked out, but we will make this happen!  More information will be coming to everyone in final documents about 3 weeks before the trip.  But in the meantime, start collecting disposible cameras, clothing, shoes, school supplies, anything you can! And those who prefer not to carry additonal things in luggage are invited to assist by cash donations. All voluntary of course, but we wanted to provide the opportunity for those who want to make a difference!
