For those of you who want to stay in Costa Rica a few days after the cruise, instead of staying in San Jose, you may want to consider staying somewhere in the Nicoya peninsula.This is on the Pacific side.

All you need to do is hop on the ferry at the end of the cruise and then take a taxi to one of the resorts in that area. Some of the resorts are all inclusive. Back in 1998 we stayed at what is now the Barcelo Playa Tambor all inclusive resort and it was nice. It even has a casino. This time my gf and I are staying 3 nights at a lodge in Mal Pais, and then flying back from the Tambor airport to Jan Jose, and on to Houston.

I have found that the best ideas for restaurants come from the tour guides. I usually tell the guides what I want to eat and ask them for recommendations. I found a couple of good restaurants in San Jose that way. I don't remember the names and I am not sure they still exist. It was several years ago.

I would not recommend staying in San Jose any extra time. It is a city just like any other. All the fun and exciting things in Costa Rica are OUTSIDE the city of San Jose.

Tortuguero National Park is a cool place to visit. You can only get there by boat or small plane. Lots of birds and animals. It is on the Atlantic side. Spending a couple of days there would be worth it. Then there are the volcanos and rain forests. I think Olivia is going to Poas but you could also visit Arenal and the hot springs there.

Just my opinion. I've been to Costa Rica twice.

MAWANN, you thinking of staying an extra night or two on top of the Olivia vacation stretcher?  We are too but haven't decided because we don't have any or know of any "things to do" while in San Jose.  Any thoughts?

Where the heck is everybody???  Where's Sleddog???

We coming 1 day early & then also doing Olivia's 3 day pre-trip.

And we're also staying 1 day extra after.  Can't wait!!!

We booked our flights right after MABDLH booked.  We debated on which vacation stretcher to go with and decided to go with the one in the middle, the 2-night.  Can't wait to get away on this trip!
