Chicago is getting better with lesbian clubs and bars but in my opinion still has a long way to go. A lot of gay bars are lesbian friendly but there are few true lesbian bars.
Of the places we've been here's our evaluation:
Circuit - 3641 N. Halsted, Chicago - Large place with several bars and lots of dancing room. Every first Saturday of the month Girlbar hosts an event. The place is usually packed. Most girls are in their 20's & 30's but there's a few of us mature girls there. On most Friday's Chixmix Productions sponsors an event here too.
The Closet - 3325 N. Broadway, Chicago - A very small but mostly lesbian place. The bartenders are friendly and attractive. Sammy (Wednesdays) and Christy (Friday) are both great. Not much to do besides converse and meet people but isn't that enough?
Big Chicks - 5024 N. Sheridan Road, Chicago - This place is sort of split, in the bar section you usually find men, the dance section the women. It can get very crowded on weekends but the people are friendly.
The Velvet Rope - 728 W. Lake Street in Oak Park - Carol Bertacci is the owner and goes out of her way to greet each and every patron. The place is LGBT but you'll see mainstreamers there too. They have karaoke on Friday's and it can be a bit loud and you won't find the talent we saw on the Caribbean Bash Cruise.
The dance floor is small and the drinks aren't cheap but the place is reasonably comfortable and service is very good.
Gotta go now but we'll have other reviews to post later.
