Sounds like a great idea Inde. I will consider that. I wanted to purchase the more authentic items as gifts for my friends and family.

Don't forget the tequila!!!

There is a ma and pa place just up the road from the resort, called Mama Lucias.  They show you how in the old days tequila was made and let you sample the 4 flavors that they make.  They have a great lil gift shop which has nifty lil gifts aside from tequila to buy to help support their family.  I love to go there, I can always set up a group of us to go there, and get my driver George to take us out there.  If you cannot make it the day I go, I will post Georges' number here and you can contact him, he will take good care of you.  If you want to see a bit of real Mexico, up North a bit from the resort, he will take you up to a lil town to do your shopping, thus supporting the smaller families.  I really like doing that kind of thing when I travel, supporting the smaller villages.

When I get home I will pull out his number and email and post it here for you gals. Also there are some great beaches up north of the resort he can take you to, after all, he is a local and knows where to go.

Ok, there it is!!

Oooooh, those sound like great ideas, Joan. I could use some bling for my cube and I MUST get some tiny wooden fish. That sounds neat.

Gift  For ourselves, we purchase home decor items, cultural things of fun and beauty to hang on our walls.  Also clothing: hats, shirts, wraps.  And toys: stuffies, dolls, and other cozy things.

Gift  For our friends, we purchase cultural items they can enjoy in their cubicles at work.  Our friends also bring us cube accessories from their vacations.  Butterflies from the butterfly museum.  Tiny wooden fish with wagging tail.  Blue & white building replicas from Greek Isles.

Travel  We always travel with at least two expandable bags, which of course are not supposed to be expanded when we start our trip. Confused  All of our purchases are supposed to fit in the expansion spaces of those two bags. Surprise

Travel  We always travel also with at least two nylon bags (the kind that fold up into their own small pocket) for any add-ons we pick up along the way, at the airport, at the beach, shopping in town, or for anything else that we may suddenly find ourselves needing to carry, such as our jackets, hats, shoes.

we-r-one,

I was wondering what types of gifts for friends do you usually purchase. I usually just stick with the basics. Shot glasses, t-shirts etc. SadI was hoping to be more creative this time. Any suggestions? Gift

For the Alaska cruise I brought 2 check on's and 1 carry on.  But since this is all about casual with maybe 1 dress up shorts night (per Desiree), and T-shirts and tanks and bathing suits, I'm just bringing my one 28" check in and I'll buy a big Mexican purse-like bag to take things home for my carry on.  You can find more stuff in Mexico that you never knew you wanted or even needed and I love to shop there.

I love to shop for nice thing on vacation and bring home knick-knacks and tasteful, touristy stuff. Does anyone usually bring an extra suitcase or bag along to carry their booty home? Smile
