Yes, exactly Crusher...this could mean that the author,( in the case of Corinthians) Paul could have been referring to heterosexuals, especially since it's been say that Paul had no concept of same sex attraction in his days.  But over time the translations have been made to condemn  homosexuals. The behavior may have been homoerotic in  nature but that doesn't necessarily mean the orientation was homosexual. In other words this very well could have been st8 men. The other part in Romans is about sexual rituals and or lust. So I believe the nature of these scriptures is what they were doing no who they were!

  I also agree with the person in-which you are engaging in conversation on this subject.  I would think that it would be easier and healthier to be in a relationship with one who  you can relate with on an emotional, mental, physical as well as a spiritual level. I also agree that the patriarchal male dominated views has placed  great emphasis   on   what  constitutes a relationship.  You can't help you love and are attracted to....how can anyone put restrictions or boundaries on that? Yes, a man can serve his purpose in some traditional relationships but not all and visa verse.  How could anyone believe that the ever so creative God who  created everyone  individually different would want make us all fit into a  cookie cutter mold to be the same? Look at the Eunuchs in the Bible...they were exclude from female relationships. Look at dwarfs, they are different in physical nature, look at left handed people, look at races, look at tall people, short people. The list goes on! 

OK, I went off on a tangent!

So in a simple statement, if that is possible, the scriptures you have listed are mainly directed at careless, permiscuity between anyone. 

I had an interesting discussion with another Olivia member, not in this group... it was regarding how she understood homosexuality but didn't understand heterosexuality.  Men and women are so different and so at opposite poles most of the time... other than procreating, she didn't understand why people don't get homosexuality and being with someone who really "gets" who you are and where you come from whether it be gay or lesbian relationships.   Her position was that it is only because of our cultural history of religion dictating morality and relationships with a male dominated perspective that we even have a hetero-dominated mentality.

I thought that this would make for some pretty interesting discussion in this group...

So, what do you all think?

That could very well be the case but let me point out that just as OT mentioned how the world has evolved and trying to get the true meanings of the intended words is certainly a struggle, especially when words are written in another language.

 It is not clear whether 1 Cor. 6:9 and 1 Tim. 1:10 refer to the "passive" and "active" partners in homosexual relationships, or to homosexual and heterosexual male prostitutes. In short, it is unclear whether the issue is homosexuality alone, or promiscuity and "sex-for-hire." However, the loving relationship part is no where to be found either way. 

 Keeping in mind that in the Grecko-Roman world, it was common for males, even while in a marriage to often keep the sexual company of boys but it was not looked upon as being homosexuals but rather more of a lustful power or dominate vice. Also, in the new testament, male same sex was used not only as a way to disrespect or demean someone but also as a ritual to the fertility Gods....but that's a whole nother subject. 

PRETTY DEEP HUH!  This is why it is so important to understand the CONTEXT,TIME PERIOD as well as the CULTURE and LANGUAGE when reading the Bible. Most literalists have no idea what the Bible is really saying and that is why there is so much division in the world today. But if you notice, Jesus never ever condemned same sex relationships.  These were the inspired words of Paul who never even met Jesus. Geeked

So the true meaning is anyone who is having non-monogamous sex as in those having sex outside of committed relationships...

I also wanted to note that the meaning of some of the older wording has changed as well..

OH, ty for the laugh, yes sometimes I pull a few good ones out of what OT says is my "not right" mind...

Yes, these are perfect examples of misinterpretations in the Bible.  The sad part is that it has weighed so many homosexual people's heart down because they are taught this or read read this at face value. 

There are more interpretations that used the words catamites and sodomites. 

The original Greek words that were used was Malakoi and Arsenokoitai

Malakoi = Ganymede = soft or refined

Arsen = male/ men +  koitai = bed

Ganymedes were boys kept for the males (Arsen) for the purpose of temple prostitutes.

Contrary to translated belief this passage is not referring to a loving homosexual relationship.

These words were translated over the years to the closest possible meaning during the time in-which it was written.  The word homosexual didn't come into the English language until 1947.

   It is interesting to see how the Word has evolved (so to speak). 

As we have seen, words can be taken many different ways and even in such small groups as our own, it can be a challenge to get across  true meanings and attitudes.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10

"Don't you know that those doing such things have no share in the Kingdom of God?  Don't fool yourselves.  Those who live immoral lives, who are idol worshipers, adulterers, or homosexuals - will have no share in this kingdom."

"Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God?  Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slandererers nor swindlers will inhereit the kingdom of God."

Holy Bible - Authorized King James Version - Oxford University Press -  given to my grandmother in 1938 on her birthday.

 Seems as time goes on, the translations get more socially motivated... hmmmm.  I wonder when the word politician will be added to the list?  Now wouldn't that raise a few eyebrows? Hmmmmmm?

Since all of the previous post were erased due to the moderators discussion to pull out, I was asked to list again some of the scriptures which are known as "The Clobber passages", these are passages that are used to discredit homosexuality in the Bible. 

As some of you may know, people have picked and choosed the scriptures out of the Bible that  they "think or have been taught God looks down on homosexuals.

Note: I am not a Biblical scholars nor do I have any theological history under my belt,  however in the past I have taken my understanding if the Bible to a more complex-ed level to better understand the history, the languages...(Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic/Latin),  the context and time period of which it was written in efforts to really get the original intent before words and meanings brought so much confusion because of misinterpretations of translation to the English language. 

I have found that you can't just read the Bible and take everything literally because most of it is mediforically speaking and this is where the rationale is lost. I  have also gotten a lot of info from scholar, theologians and people who have studied the languages that support my findings. 

So to get to the scriptures, these are the most common three that people misinterpret:  You can look them up yourselves and if there's' any questions that anyone wants to discuss we can all join in and shed some light, views and facts on it. 

Leviticus 18:22  &  20:13
