Mom’s French Toast Casserole

Spray a 13x9 casserole dish with Pam

Cut day old French bread into 1” pieces, enough to generously fill casserole.

Mix together:

            5 eggs

            2 cups milk

            2/3 cup maple syrup

Then pour the mixture over the top of the bread.

Spread over the top:

            ½ teaspoon cinnamon

½ cup chopped walnuts (we leave this part out)

            ¼ cup raisins

This may be prepared, to this point, the night before and refrigerated (it’s actually better if you do it the night before).

The next morning, complete the recipe:

Blend and Pour the following over the top:

            1/3 cup brown sugar

            1/3 cup melted butter

1/3 cup maple syrup

Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.  Serve with hot maple syrup.  Dust the top with powdered sugar before serving.

This is a great recipe for when you have overnight guests.  It’s easy to prepare and always a crowd pleaser.
