Hello -

There are no tickets or e-tickets for the charters. All you need is your passport. Smile

Thanks,

Jeri

JERI- charter flight "tickets" ???????
10/12/2010, 12:26 PM

being as you may check back here- all I have for "tickets" for charter is the confirmation and email from agent on the charter flight.

IS THAT ALL WE NEED? Go up and show them that?

I someone gonna be at the charter flight ticket booth to help us with them if there is a problem?

Hello -

Jeri from Olivia here. You can check one bag and take one carry on onto the charter flights. There is no additional cost to check you bags, it is included in your charter pricing.

Reminder: You MUST claim your bags from your flight to Florida and then recheck them on to the charter flight. Don't head off on your vacation without your clothes. Surprise

Have a fun trip!

Jeri

Deb you said on other thread that you took Miami Air charter to CI last time.  Do you remember if you paid checked baggage fee or maybe you only traveled light and only took a carry-on?

Correct:  Bahama Air does not charge for the one international checked baggage.

I have sent inquiry to Olivia re the other charter baggage fee policies.   It does seems reasonable to me that since these are charter flights, which all cost $399, and that since BA does not charge for international baggage, then there should be no baggage fee charge on Spirit or (air Miami for that matter) for this trip. But it is up to  Olivia to let us know for the purpose of our planning/packing/costs.

looks like if you are on Bahamas Air flight there is no cost, but if you are on Spirit Air flight there may be a cost.

Bahamasair website still says its policy (in effect as of June 2010) allows one checked bag up to 50 pounds FREE on international flights.  I bring a small duffle that crunches up as my carry on -- that way a purse can be stuffed inside it if they are strict about the number of items I carry.

Oh that all makes me feel ALOT better! Yikes.  Smile

So- Steph- are you checking with Olivia- or someone? Guess if we have to pay for luggage online to save money, then we need to know. That is all great info and I thank you for posting it- but Olivia needs to verify. Are you saying Spirit Air bought Bahama Air too?

We are on Bahama Air. I thought it was all set and no charge for the 1 check in and 1 carry on. BUT I WAS wondering about if a "purse"- personal item- is seperate and ok. It sounds like it is. We got tickets May 6th. Fly out of FLL. Olivia never mentioned about having to pay for luggage. WOW- cannot believe the prices for overweight or too big. WOW.

Ginger44 and SouthCarolina_Goldi are correct when they say that CI is a lot more casual than the Cruises.  It is also a lot less humid than Cancun!!!!

Some informationre Spirit "baggage" items (and Actually I have a question re the Baggage Fees to those of you that have gone before?   Are fees for "carry ons (added by Spirit last spring but after Olivia bought the charter, so hope not!)" and/or "checked baggage" included in the charter price?   I do not usually travel on charters, so I am not up to speed...)

If so, most of the information below may be not applicable, to the Charter flights, except for the Spirit guidance on the difference between “personal” and “carry on” items and checked baggage weights and sizes  (The last time I went toi CI,  I did not fly via the charters.  I WILL say that FYI, Bahamas Air overhead bins are REALLY NOT that big, so it IS a challenge to fit other than  REAL “personal” items up there.  (Look on BA website to see their limiting sizes and weights and fees) for checked baggages (the later if not included in the charter flight cost)   I would like confirmation about the no fee for carry on for the FT L to CI flights.

The following information is for Spirit Air, according to their website:

“All customers who purchased reservations prior to April 6, 2010, for travel August 1, 2010 and beyond, will be “Grandfathered” and no carry-on bag charges will apply.“

My comments including this paragraph are in italics and apply only to the Olivia charter Spirit flight from FT L to CI.  Any other Spirit flight or other flights TO Ft Lauderdale and Miami personally purchased by us thru Spirit Air or airlines, or for the other charter flights to CI have different cost policies.  Since Olivia bought the Spirit charter flight before this policy change, I believe that the cost of the “carry on” items we bring, are not subject to the additional charge, since Olivia bought out the flight long before April 6, 2010.  However, it is probably a good idea to confirm with Olivia/Spirit that this is true, and there is no cost for the carry on.  I believe that lower checked baggage fees may STILL apply since they were in effect before April 6, and are probably not included in the charter cost already paid to Olivia. If that is true, It IS cheaper to plan ahead and pay the fee in advance for the ONE checked bag that Olivia already says we are limited to, on line, since cost is higher to do at airport.  But AGAIN, this information should be checked with Olivia/Spirit see if maybe the checked baggage fee is part of the charter cost, already paid, which would be GREAT!   I plan to do check, since it is also not clear how or if we get our boarding passes in advance for the Spirit charter flight from Ft. Lauderdale!!!!!  (Since I have not finalized all the the trip arrangements yet, so that info may be in the paperwork I receive from Olivia.(These questions  are also true for Bahamas Air flight from Ft. Lauderdale and Miami air flight.

SPIRIT AIRLINES WEBSITE

The following items are EXCLUDED ITEMS that are not counted towards a customer's carry-on item baggage allowance and are free of charge.

Umbrella, Camera, Infant Diaper Bag, Assistive Devices, Outer Garments (Coats/Hats/Wraps), Car Seat/Stroller, Reading Material, Food for the flight.

CARRY-ON (NOTE: per above note at top, should also not cost $30-45 cost listed on the website to bring on board, but this DOES need to be confirmed with Olivia / Spirit.

Only 1 per seat purchased.  Must fit in the overhead bin.
May not exceed:
22 x 18 x 10"
(56 x 46 x 25cm)

CHECKED BAGGAGE:  For travel before November 1, 2010

Fees apply for all checked baggage.   All checked baggage fees are non-refundable and may be paid online at www.spiritair.com or at the airport   Spirit offers a discount for reserving space for your checked bag online.   Each checked bag must have identification on the outside of the bag. Spirit recommends placing identification tags inside luggage as well.

***NOTE:  According to Olivia, we are allowed only 1 checked bag for the charters, but I did not see whether there was a charge for checked bags on the Olivia travel information or resort guide links for this trip.   Probably is there IS one, so see below:

"First" Bag - International  (Olivia says the limit is 1 checked bag)

Size: 62" linear
(length+width+height)

Weight: 50 lbs     Cost:  Online:  $30  At Gate  $45
(158cm/23 kg)

Overweight Charges: 51- 70 lbs. (23.13 – 31.75 kg)    $501   (Weigh your bag!)

                                  71 – 99 lbs. (32.20 – 44.90 kg)    $1001

Oversized Charges      62 - 79 linear inches (158 - 200.66 cm)    $1001 (Measure your bag!)

80+ linear inches (203+ cm)                    $1501

Additional VAT (value added tax) taxes may apply.

WHEELCHAIRS

Wheelchairs and other mobility devices are accepted as checked baggage at no extra charge, and are NOT considered part of the customer’s normal baggage allowance.

SPORTING EQUIPMENT  For you Ladies who want to bring your own tanks  - Check with Olivia /Spirit, since this IS an additional item beyond the 1 checked bag limit!!!!!

Spirit allows only one (1) sporting item per customer.  A flat fee of $75.00 each leg will apply for all sporting equipment (scuba tanks, bicycles etc.) with the exception of golf clubs and surfboards.

I agree - We've been to Club Med twice in Cancun and found that a couple of bathing suits come in handy because that is what you wear the majority of the day - every day.  Fewer shorts - especially if they are like Columbia light weight material you can always wash in the room and t shirts.  Maybe a couple of collared shirts or something more dressy but honestly the resorts are so casual that you should be able to take plenty in a suit case and carry on or just a carry on.  Every evening you see all kinds of dress and the majority is casual, casual :)  Have fun packing!

I would recommend unpacking half of what you have as this resort is really laid back and you spend the majority of your time in a bathing suit during the day. The first time I went to columbus isle I had a big suitcase and a carry on and the last 2 times I went I went with a carry on and a purse and still did not wear everything I brought.

Surprise

OK- I am a heavy packer- usually 2 big bags. This is scary to try to cram it in to one bag. Anyone else panicking like me?? I have to start packing today as it is a very busy week. Usually you can go buy something if you forget it at a port. Yikes- this is gonna be hard!!!

I wonder on the charter if we can do like a carryon back pack AND a "purse" type bag. Put one in overhead and one under seat. Anyone know??

I wish it were Friday already and we were on our way!! I am so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
