Just had to shout out for Barefoot and Commando!! I will be!

My apologies to all air travelers....TSA and powerdrunk airline employees suck and they should all have to be barefoot and naked to set a good example! Hmmmmmmm, that just might scare away the terrorists!!

Sorry folks I was under the impression that ALL international flights into the US were experiencing these restrictions...

But now this is just stupid... and makes no sense that only Canada has these no carry-on rules... and only on US bound flights... If it was a question of Canadian or North American safety (as CATSA website claims) then wouldn't they want this requirement on all flights within or leaving Canada. Or if this is pressure from the US TSA then why are other countries not forced into the same requirements?

I know the requirements are doable but just seem so asinine and serve no real "protection" purpose for either country or citizen. Now it's starting to look like CATSA is just getting lazy and are tired of dealing with snowbirds. I'd be more then happy to dump the contents of my carry on for them to look at I'd just like to have a bag for everything... I'm not big into purses... or diaper bags...

Glen & Jen... Good plan on the first short-haul... unfortunately I have about 13+ hours of travel from Ottawa before I overnight in Dallas-Fort Worth... I went for the cheapest...not the straightest route...

OK Canadians, Pray, Dream, Visualize, or Write CATSA and hope we have these restrictions gone! (and safe travel of course...)

Okay Qalunaq it looks like its us Canadian's that will have to get inventive.

Glenn and I are flying into Minneapolis and overnighting, so I'm going to pack a carry on in my suitcase and pack it in the States.

Then I can make sure I have my essentials with me.

Maybe the travel goddess' will smile upon us and they will remove the carry on restriction before we leave.

Hey there, mawann.  I just checked the various Mexican and US gov't sites re: traveling and I don't see anything new/different from the past several years.  (We've travelled to Canada, Mexico, Germany, the UK, Amsterdam, & Africa over the past 5 years) Whether or not you can take a carry-on (and whether there is a charge or not) is governed by the specific airline but, I haven't heard any prohibition against them.  What you are PERMITTED to carry-on is specified by the TSA ... but, as I said, I don't see any changes (except that lighters are now PERMITTED).

As for travel documents, a passport is required (there are a few other special options...and there may be other requirements for non-US citizens) but the "entry docs" will be provided to us by the airline before landing in Zihua.  Likewise, re-entry/declaration docs will be provided by the airline before landing in the US.

Hope this helps!

Margaret…as far as I know only Canada is banning carry-on baggage on flights from Canada to the US.  I called the airline we're on (USAir) and they said we're allowed one carry-on bag and one personal item…like a purse, briefcase or laptop bag…both going and coming from Mexico.

But she also said to re-check the TSA site for any changes.

Did you check your spam/junk folder just in case?

Only 2 weeks away!!!!!

Jana, what can you tell me about these new restrictions?  You mean we can't take a carry on bag back from Mexico to the U.S?  Also, should we have received travel documents?  We haven't received anything.

I agree with you!

With the Shoe Bomber…we have to remove our shoes at security

So with the Underwear Bomber…we now should also have to remove our underwear!

I think it's time to stop the panic with air travel security

Ok... First off, I do support airport security and terrorism is not a laughable matter... but the more I read the CATSA regulations regarding International flights into the US the more I want to knock some sense into these people.

http://www.catsa.gc.ca/file/library/71/English/Exempt%20Items%20(08jan10)EN.pdf

Basically... If you read the list of what you are allowed to take on a plane nothing has changed... The only thing is you can't put it all in one bag... so my book or magazine is allowed, as is my laptop, and my daytimer, and my camera, my ipod, and some snacks, and I could bring knitting needles (if I brought wool too...). But I just can't carry them in a bag...

Besides...wasn't the explosives in the guys shoes & underwear? Why not make us all travel barefoot and commando?

Now I don't think these restrictions affect those of you originating from the US but keep it in mind, they will for your return flight from Mexico...

Hopefully they will realize the irony and lift the "no carry-on" restriction... since... really the carry-on is not restricted anyhow... just the bag...
