We have an 8 year old Jack Russell named Romey. Romey is mostly white with only a few liver colored buckshot spots on her ears. She is smooth coated and weighs about 14 pounds. She's never swam but she does like to check out the squirrels in the neighborhood and can't understand why she's never been able to get close to one. She is great friends with our cat Milo, but won't tolerate any other cats. She is lively and playful and we still get asked if she is a puppy, but we can see that she has slowed down (only slightly) with age. Romey taught herself to play "hockey." She has a squeaky rubber folded up newspaper that's about 6" long. She takes the paper in her mouth and uses it to bat a ball all around the house for 30 minutes at a stretch. She thinks it is great fun for us to throw the ball, then she will retrieve it with the paper and bat it back to us, across the length of the house, around corners, under chairs, whatever it takes. I swear, we did not teach her this, and we have no idea how she came up with the idea.
