Things are pretty good.  I hear ya about corrections not really being a chosen field.  I needed a decent job and here I still am over 20 years later!  It's been good to me, so I can't complain.  Things have definitely changed over the years, though.  Makes me glad I can retire in just over 3 years.  I do love the people I work with.  They actually are alot of what keeps me going back every day.  I've got a real good team on Swings.  They know what needs to be done and get it done!  Right now, I'm going back to school, working toward my Veterinary Technician degree.   I'm hoping this will be my retirement.  I've always loved working with animals, which started from being raised around horses.  My dad and I bred registered Quarter Horses until shortly before he died.  I do miss not having a horse, but a friend of mine has a 19 year old mustang who's a joy to ride!  Anyway, you all be safe inside the fences and watch your six!  Take care!

How's it going? I have been in corrections for the last 2 1/2 years in Fl. And I was raised with stories about corrections seeing as how my father has been a c/o for as long as I can remember. I love my job and the people I work with are awesome. We are like a family. And I admit corrections isn't what I had in mind for myself when I got out of college. I actually wasn't really sure what I wanted to do. All I knew is I wanted to be in law enforcement. I grew up with it. My Dad and my uncle are in the field. I like where I am at for now. All the people I work with are cool with me. I am just who I am and I don't really try to hide it. Everyone on my shift seems cool with that. If they aren't they don't say anything.

I've spent the last 20+ years working in Corrections in Arizona.  It's interesting in that I didn't really have to come out to my co-workers.  I've never really flaunted it but I've never covered it up either.  Most everyone I work with already knew and are extremely accepting.  Several months ago, I went through a rough break up of a 16 year relationship.  If it hadn't been for my supervisors and some of my staff, it would have been alot harder to deal with. 

There are alot of sisters who work for corrections here in Arizona.  Some are open about it, though many are not.  I have known many high level administrators who have been extremely open and have been accepted.  I think much of it has to do with the person herself and how she deals with others.  For the most part, lesbians who are decent people and not overbearing are accepted much more readily.  The only difference is that we also have inmates to consider and that we have staff who don't bother to see who's around when they're running their necks.

Anyway, would love to share experiences with anyone in the Corrections field.
