I'm not sure about Shane.  I don't see Lucy as being that scrawny.  She's supposed to be very athtletic.  I'm having trouble finding someone though.  Maybe if Shane bulked up a little...ok, maybe a lot!

oooo, Ed Harris, good choice!  and I like the Dennis Franz suggestion also.   And maybe Jolie is just taking a production roll and we see Jodie in the lead role! that would work for me!

"Patricia Cornwell has been quoted in the past as saying she could see Jodie Foster in the role."

Found this on the blogs, don't know if it's true.............

Pete Marino, that's him.  I see someone suggested John Goodman but I really like that actor Dennis Franz.  He's the guy I always picture when I read the books.

For Benton, I'd say Liam Neeson, James or Josh Brolin or Ed Harris.  Have we done what's his name yet?  That overweight cop?  His name completely escapes me at the moment.

Is John Goodman still around? I would agree he'd fit the role perfectly.

Shane would be perfect too.

I'm still thinking about Scarpetta though!

How about Kathrine Moennig? (Shane) and maybe John Goodman as Pete Marino.

Jodie seems to fit my idea of Kay Scarpetta more readily than Angelina Jolie as well.  I do agree with Sled about Angelina's character acting abilities though so she could pull it off.  Wonder who they have in mind for Lucy?  Any thoughts on that role gals?

Kay Scarpetta's character is based on Dr. Marcella Fierro à

So, neither look like Patricia Cornwell's description of Scarpetta.

I agree with Kathy ~ Angelina is a good character actor ~ and could easily pull it off!

Good point re Northern blonde Italian. Hmmm, Jolie with blonde hair????? Doesn't seem to blend!!

I've been trying to think about who I would choose to play Scarpetta. Still working on it..........

What do you think?

I am a huge Scarpetta fan.  it does seem like a strange choice but given the wide range of roles that Jolie has played, from Girl Interrupted to Laura Croft, I am willing to give Cornwell the benefit of the doubt.  The first thing that comes to mind though is the description of Scarpetta as a northern Italian with blond hair!

Okay all of you Patricia Cornwell fans, what do you think of this?  Personally, I don't see Jolie as Scarpetta!!

Jolie teams up with Cornwell on Scarpetta films

It could be deemed a kind of Hollywood marriage made in heaven — bestselling murder-mystery writer Patricia Cornwell has signed a deal to develop a film franchise based on her Dr. Kay Scarpetta books, all set to star Angelina Jolie.

Fox 2000 studio has bought the screen rights to all 16 books featuring the crime solver, according to Hollywood trade paper Variety.

It's a double coup for the studio — snagging a global star such as Jolie and then persuading the usually reluctant Cornwell to allow her book series to be adapted to screen.

Cornwell changed her mind about a film franchise after meeting with Jolie and producer Geyer Kosinki to discuss the project, according to the report. She is said to be playing a key role in the development of the first film.

The report says the film series will be modelled after the Jason Bourne films, starring Matt Daman. Plots from many Bourne stories, originally written by Robert Ludlum, were merged into the first three films.

A fourth Bourne film, with no link to the original books, has been set in motion.

Previous attempts have been made to put Scarpetta on the big screen. Demi Moore had been set to star in a 1992 film based on the novel Cruel and Unusual. It never got off the ground.

The first book was published in 1990 and the latest, Scarpetta, was published last year.

The main character is an opera-loving coroner who loves to cook. First starting off as a state coroner for Virginia, Scarpetta relocated to Florida to become a consultant. In the latest book, she has moved to Massachusetts, where she is a medical examiner.

Cornwell once worked at the office of the chief medical examiner in Virginia as a technical writer and computer analyst. She has also written several cookbooks featuring northern Italian cuisine — which is where her main character's family comes from.
