Nobody asked but I found this little bit of info that you chef's "par excellence" might be interested in:

Exceptional poisson cru:

Fresh fish is of exceptional quality in Polynesia. Do not hesitate at all to enjoy "poisson cru" ("raw" fish) served in all snacks and restaurants at any time: either local style, Tahitian style "poisson cru" marinated in lemon juice and coconut milk with fresh crunchy vegetables, or Japanese style sashimi. If you prefer cooked fish, do not forget either to taste Mahi Mahi (dolphin fish) with vanila or coconut, or Moon fish: absolutely fabulous!

Oh Susan, I just remembered that they were topless on the beach at the hotel we stayed at in Papeete last time!

By the way, so envy your first few days stay on Papeete in the over water bungalow. As you know we did that for a week in 1978. It was a wonderful place to wind down & relax.

Two warnings:

Don't eat too much fresh fruit for breakfast if it's been peeled & cut up!!!! Phyl learned the hard way to only eat fruit that still has peel/skin on!

If you use room service to eat at the bungalow, when you put the empty tray out, make sure you put it a long way from your door. The bugs invade them as soon as you put them out!!!

All for now........

Something to keep in mind Susan, although it wasn't humid in Aug/Sept, the sun was still something to respect:

"Sunbathing: monoi and still more monoi!
Be VERY careful with the sun, especially the first days and, especially if you are on a motu on some burning hot atoll in the Tuamotus. In Polynesia, the sky is often loaded with clouds, which gives the impression that you are protected from the sun, well, you are not! The same is true about sunbathing under the trees, they offer no protection. Do like the Vahine do, wear pareos and cover yourself entirely with Monoi cream or oil, which also smells very good while protecting your skin More"

I was trying to recall whether or not any gals went topless on the beaches. They might have on the Motu in Bora Bora where we had a beach BBQ. Gosh, you'd think I'd remember something like that!!
I must study our photos.........

Well, Julie, that is brilliant news! Because I plan to be in just a pareo and bathing suit top the entire time! Yes, will keep my top on during this cruise! (except maybe when snorkeling!) :) Susan

Anita & Harriet, in August/September it's their Winter & the daily hi is around 80 degrees, lo around 75.
I didn't find it particularly hot & humid at that time of year. We were there in January (Summer) once & it was unbearable!

I wonder how hot it will be....hotter than the Caribbean? The older I get, the hotter I feel! Maybe it's the fat...ha ha.

Last night we rented a movie called Paradise Found, starring Kiefer Sutherland. He plays Paul Gaugin, and it is the story of his life, how he became a famous painter, how he moved to Tahiti, etc. Very interesting! Definitely worth a rental!

Hi,
Congratulations to those getting married soon and
going on the Tahiti cruise. My partner and I got "married" in Oregon 10 years ago July 12th and
then got really married in Canada July 24, 2003.

I used to live in L.A. I moved to Oregon in 1991 after nearly 40 years. My partner is a Portland native.

We are looking forward to this cruise, leaving Portland on the morning of September 14th and flying out of L.A. to spend the night in Papeete.

Because we have 4 doggies and 2 cats, we aren't adding on days as we had hoped. Two of our Siberian Huskies are 13 now and the male, poor boy, has like doggie Alzheimer's. So he needs medication and special care. We have a housesitter, but still....they all miss us and we miss them and don't feel so good about leaving them for long. We also have an 8 month puppy, a loony tooney!!!! She manages to destroy something every time we're gone no matter what we do. But we reallllllly reallllllly love her. I know, we're nuts.

I'll be 56 by the time we cruise this time and my partner will be 38th......We've been together 16 years plus.

I'm not a great flier, so I'll be xanaxed up on the flight!

Just got a new underwater camera for the trip! It is good to 200 feet, so I can use it for both snorkeling and scuba diving! I can't wait for this trip! Have been looking at the excursions, but haven't made any decisions yet.
Two more months......

Two more months!!!! OMG....we can't wait! Only about a month till our information arrives and we can really get moving...selecting excursions, finalizing plans, etc...
It seems like we've been waiting forever!

Is it September yet?
