Hi all,

I've been an attorney for almost 15 years now, have always worked in New York City, for New York City, and specialize in appeals.  I truly enjoy what I do, though it is becoming more and more difficult for me to say the same about the people I work with at the office!  I went on an Olivia cruise a few years ago and have been waiting for another Olivia vacation opportunity to present itself ever since--I'm starting to realize that may not be the best tactic!

Hi everyone!

I am a second-year law student in Columbus, Ohio, working on my second career.  I am the co-President of the LGBT student organization at my law school.

I will be working for a commercial litigation boutique firm this next summer, and I will hopefully get a job offer out of that!  :)

Hi All -

I haven't been on the site for a while, so getting back its great to see people "talking."  I am currently at a major firm In Portland, OR awaiting bar results* (next week?!).  I'm in IP, but really don't care much for it so I want to make a major change once results are out.  Any suggestions?

My partner recently began law school about 2 weeks ago, so eventually we want to do our own thing, but that's a future endeavor.  Right now she barely remembers her name!  I keep reassuriing her it will be fine, so that at least gets her through her latest lecture.

Anyway, anyone in the Portland area please give a holler.  No  Olivia plans on the horizon, but perhaps a swing by Maui on the semester break.

Take care,

Christie, aka surflaw.

Hi Meagan (and everyone in this group),

I just joined the group tonight. I was thrilled to see this type of group. I am a veteran Registered Nurse with my own consulting firm. I am a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant from Kentucky. I work with attorneys across the US consulting with them on medical related cases. I ensure that my attorney client has a complete understanding of the medical aspect of a case. I offer 30 services, everything from screening cases for merit, preparing witnesses for deposition and trial, report writing, medical research and so much more. It is a new profession that many attorneys are not familiar with but once an attorney uses a CLNC services they rarely try a medical related case without a CLNC again.

I am committed to my partner of 9 years. We live in Highland Heights KY. We have a 17 year old son and an adopted 14 year of daughter. We are aunts to three great nephews that we adore. Our hobbies include football games (Go Cincinnati Bengals), playing Euchre (card game) and Texas Hold em.

We will be in Anchorage on 9/16 and 9/17 after we depart the Alaskian cruise.

Would love to hear from you.

Hello all,

Nice to see this group.

I'm in-house for a small but growing computer company that's based in So. Cal., though I work from my home in Oregon.  I get to tell everyone that my boss is 1000 miles away!  I've been in the computer industry since I graduated from law school in 1992 (egad!), and I mostly find it really interesting, though sometimes I, too, dream of escaping.  My escape will happen when I can support myself writing fiction, which has always been my dream.  In the meantime, my company treats me very well, so I can't complain.

Anyone here going on the second Romantic Danube cruise next year?

Hi all.  I'm a public defender in Anchorage, AK.  I won't be on the cruise that's coming up to Alaska, but I'll be waiting for it.

I'm out at work and have had no problems.  I can't imagine being closeted in any aspect of my life, so I generally try to come out in the interview in some (hopefully) subtle way--I'd rather not get a job than be miserable after starting.  I also did work for a union in DC and for a plaintiff's-side employment law firm in Denver, where my boss (one of two partners) was a lesbian.  I haven't had any problems yet. . . .

NormaRae: Where are you going to escape to?  I love my job, but you never know--always open to new ideas of escape.

Cheers,

Meagan

not a very chatty bunch of lawyers, eh?  i'm a union-side lesbian labor lawyer (some individual employee rights law, also) in chicago (partner is a social security disability lawyer in chicago).  am out at work and have experienced no problems.  know another union-side lesbian labor lawyer in chicago who is also out and who just had a baby with her partner.  while i believe in the cause i've chosen to champion, i have been planning an escape from the legal profession since i became a member of the bar (only 2 years ago).  partner and i are going on our first olivia cruise in october--mexican riviera!

hope to see more introductions on this thread!

Hi Sarah:

I live in Southern Illinois and I work in an all female firm.  There are two partners and I am the associate attorney.  I am out at work as is one of the partners and one of our paralegals.  The other partner is very family friendly.  I specialize in employment litigation and civil rights.  I have been doing this for about four years now and love it.  I came to the firm during law school as a clerk and have never left.

Hi everyone,

Just curious as to what everyone here does in law and anthing else they'd like to share. I guess I'll start.  I'm in tax law and I'm currently in my second federal clerkship. I'm not sure what I'm doing after I finish clerking, but I'm definitely staying in Washington and I really don't want to work at a traditional firm.

Looking forward to hearing about the rest of the group!
