I suggest we all try to get our families to view the movie "For The Bible Tells Me So."  (www.forthebibletellsmeso.org) If you haven't seen it, you MUST!!  The bible (which is after all MEN'S interpretation of what Jesus said) doesn't condem same sex relationships.  Those who stand on literal biblical interpretation are most often quite ignorant about what the bible actually says and the historical context of the language used.  If I could duct tape my family members to TV chairs and force them to see the movie, they might become more enlightened.  But how do you force people to listen with an open mind?  So perhaps the best we can all do is to proceed living our own lives in integrity and let them see over time how sacred our relationships can be.  My partner and I have been together for 22 years and everyone in our families knows that we are the most solid and stable couple of them all, even if they don't admit it.  Unfortunately most organized religion has fostered descrimination of all minority groups throughout history, even though such behavior is contradictory to the teachings of Jesus and the other religious prophets.  We should set the spiritual example by being tolerant and loving and demonstrating  sacred relationships.  But at the same time we should continue to seek justice in the courts, which is currently happening in California.  Our time is coming, society is definately changing!

Hey Allthingzlword! I am sharing your pain!

I just spent the weekend before election day with my Mother, Stepfather, sister and brother-in-law, and stepbrother and wife....celebrating the 25 year wedding anniversaries of my both my sister and stepbrother.....and every one of them were voting YES ON 8!!!!!! I actually asked, because I needed to know. I, too am struggling with how exactly to proceed with how to go on in my interactions with them from here on out. I love my family and they claim to love me and "accept" me, but they say that "God intended marriage to be between a man and a woman and it is not our place to change that".

I have been out to my entire family for over 30 years and I was shocked that they wouldn't even discuss the proposition with me or attempt to listen to what I had to say!

Hang in there. There is always HOPE.     Smile

I got one even better.

My mother, the mother of a gay son and lesbian daughter, voted for Prop 8!

To say that I am DEVASTATED would be an understatement. She doesn't know that I know she voted for 8 (I saw how she marked her voters list) and I haven't said much to her since I found out. I can barely hide my complete disgust with her!

I gave up 24 years of my life trying to be the "dutiful daughter" and this is my reward. To say our relationship will NEVER BE THE SAME would be an oxymoron. For the last two days, I have been literally walking around in a daze. That my own mother would vote against me is unfathomable! If god had told me my mother would have voted for 8, I would have punched god in the mouth for even suggesting it.

I'm proud to be an American and ashamed and embarrassed to be a californian!!!

Please don't worry too much....there is already a lawsuit in progress as this is wrong and everyone knows it, even the ones who fought against us know it!  It will be overturned.  Remember it used to be against the law for inter-racial marriage & look how ridiculous that seems today....Peace to you all ladies.  Keep you heads held high and your marriages sacred.

We hear you.  We live in FL, the third leg in the anti-marriage triangle.  .

I heard the same thing on the news last night. That SUCKS! I live in AZ and the Prop 102 alsp passed which means that they will amend the constitution to reflect that marriage is between one man and one woman. Also it makes impossible for one to file a class action suit against the prop or question the constitution, so no judge in AZ will overule what is already written in the constitution.

Echo Magazine (which is written and published by GLBT) said on the news last night that discrimination has basically been added to the constitution.

I don't think it is any ones buisness or it doesn't affect anyone if gays want to marry.

It's a sad time for us GLBT.CryingSad

We heard today that the marriages which took place before 11/4 will stand until there is court action, and a lawsuit has been filed today.  Does anyone know more?

No, but we were married there before the cruise as well.  Please let us know if you hear anything and we will do the same.  As it was before, they'll never take away our love....only the piece of paper, so although disappointed in the step backwards,we're still looking forward to our next Olivia vacation - definitely Halloween, and possibly as early as the March cruise.

my new spouse and I had a great time.  After seeing the results of prop 8 we are a little sad.  Does anyone know how long it takes to get the marriage license?

Jill and Staff,

Thank you for a wonderful timeYesStick out tongue. Though we (myself, Jo & Cindy) had horrible news the night before cruise Crying (the arson at the cabin Jo & I owned) we didn't let it dampen out spirits.Smile If anything the cruise took our minds off it until our return.

I also want thank you for the consideration on profiling me with a cabin mate. Right Hug Michelle was a great cabin mate! Yes In the future I would consider going totally solo (without friends) and know that I'd have another great time!Big Smile

Thanks again,  Diane

Amber and I had a fabulous time!  And we were the first couple that Rene HIcks married!  She gave us each a necklace that said Live, Laugh, Love, and we are still wearing it everyday!

We took vows on an Olivia cruise in 2004 but decided since we were in Cali that we'd put something "legal" behind us!  Rene was hysterical, every picture that was taken (thanks to more Olivia gals) we were laughing....we even have one where it she possitively angelic!  Hard to believe, Rene angelic, but no lie!  She seriously made us take a leap of faith...wouldn't marry us unless we got our feet off of the floor!  So much fun!

Thanks to Rene, all the girls of Olivia and Judy for making this happen!  Love and peace to all, Kat
