I was very excited at the prospect of living in an Olivia community.
My partner and I have been looking at our options for living in a
lesbian/gay housing situation. An Olivia community, offering what we
are looking for, would be our first choice.
But I didn't find much practical information in Olivia's e-mail
and web descriptions. I have a lot of questions. But first, I decided
to do a bit of research. Here are some of the facts I've found:
First, the condominum is currently called "The Condominium at Williams
Centre". It's located in a mixed residential/office/commercial area.
Texas Instruments has moved their Tucson offices across the street. The
Southern Arizona campus of the University of Phoenix (incorrectly
called the U of Arizona in the web description) is also across the
street. On the south side of the condos is Vail Middle School, which is
part of the Tucson Public school system.
Here is a map I've made showing the location and surrounding area
A Mapquest map showing the location can be viewed here
Here is an aerial view via MS Virtual Earth (click on "Aerial" or "Bird's Eye View")
The current condo website, including photos, can be found here
I've found some reviews of the condo's/apartments. Many mentioned the
great location. I only read those newer comments posted from 2007 to the
present. While most of the comments obviously reflect the
policies/procedures of the current management, one recurring thread
stood out for me. That was the sound problem...5 reviewers mentioned a
problem with "thin walls". This is a issue that can't be solved by
changing management, or owners...nor would Olivia's proposed upgrades
resolve the sound problem.
One example comment:
"As everyone has mentioned, the walls are thin!! I can't tell you how
many nights I have been awaken to someone playing music, having
mattress mambo, or just having a regular conversation. You can always
here the plumbing from when someone is taking a showing or using the
toilet."

I also have some questions about how this setup would work....
- As Olivia has said, they expect most owners will be part-time residents. Can we rent out our condos when we're not using them?
- If an owner were to sell, what's to prevent her from selling to
someone other than a lesbian? Could the HOA legally admit lesbians only?
What are your thoughts?
