Odyn:

You can bring wine and soda on board. If you bring a bottle of wine into the dining room, they will charge you a corkage fee of about $18.

In terms of buying in port, you are correct, it is really at the whim of the crew when you board.  OUr experience has been that if the bottles are boxed and placed on the belt, they hold them until the last night of our cruise.  However, on a couple of occassions we have had a bottle or two in our backpack and they haven't said a word. But we have seen people have to take bottles out of bags and backpacks and give them up so it just depends on the crew.  I know that doesn't help much but that is what we have experienced.

If someone could help us out, we have been on two Olivia cruises before (both on HAL) and have observed different procedures. We have been advised you can take wine on board to consume in the cabin, but can you take soda on board for the same purpose?  Also, when we stopped at one of the Islands, we watched as alcohol purchased at the duty free store was allowed to be taken back to the cabin for use during the remainder of the cruise. Is this allowed or just the whim of the crew working the gangway?

We would like to add these items to "our list"  Thanks!
