The last time I cruised we were able to pay something to have our bags checked right through to our flight.  It was a nice service and took a bit of stress off.  That was out of Tampa though, not sure if it's available in Ft. Lauderdale.

Also if you are a non-American or non- Canadian citizen who qualifies for the Visa Waiver Program, ensure you have your ESTA print-out with you. American customs forgot to stamp my foreign passport when I entered the USA and the ESTA proof was the only reason they would let me on or off  the ship. Like H and G in BC wrote...Non-Americans get processed first at around 6 am, however one can return to one's cabin after processing and disembark later.

All of the non-Americans need to be cleared through Customs before anyone can disembark, so we start that around 6 AM or as soon as they can get customs people on the ship.  Once that is finished then it is a very orderly process to leave the ship.

when we first arrive the ship has to first clear customs...then we are let off by group number/color...which will be determined by the disembarkation papers that will be filled out on the ship...it's all done pretty orderly to get people off at a time they need

they organize it based who peoples flights/plans are. if you have an early flight, you go first. if you are not leaving till next day, you go later, etc.

they let you know the night before- also you put out all your luggage the night before too- so save a day pack and leave out what you need until you get your luggage after you disembark. it is all stowed in a buidling or under an awning by the ship and you go get them.

So, we're in port at 7 a.m..... are we all supposed to be lined up to leave at that moment? How does this work. Never been on a cruise.
