Take a look at the Panasonic DMC waterproof series.  I have one that I took some great pics and HD video with when we went on Olivia's Ixtapa, Mexico trip.  The pics are a little soft, but one of my beach scenes was selected in a calendar contest I entered in.  You also have the versatility with it being waterproof and shooting HD video so you can take it anywhere, including the pool, the beach and for a water excursion or snorkeling.  It's a great all around camera when I don't want to carry around my Nikon SLR and lenses.

A day of photography sounds like a great idea. Perhaps I will be able to learn some stuff!

That may be why I just continue to lug my big heavy (but I love her) camera around! Big Smile

Yes, shutter lag is why I do not like shooting with little Point & Shoot cameras.

here's 3 possible cameras that have a better/faster response time (less shutter lag) which may also help with the problem that you say you need a faster shutter speed for

most cameras have a fast enough shutter speed…but if there's movement by either you or what you are shooting…between the time you push the shutter button and when the shutter actually opens (even though it's only milliseconds or less) that may be one reason for out-of-focus or blurry images

Good it is not just me. If I find something, I will let you know. You do the same?

haven't gotten a point & shoot yet...the problem i'm finding with most of them is "shutter lag"...where there is a delay from where you actually press the shutter button till the shutter opens

still looking!

Great info. So have you found a 'Point & Shoot' with good/fast shutter speeds?

some of my lenses have that feature…Nikon calls it VR (Vibration Reduction) basically it's for "anti-shake" when shooting a pic.

basically think of it as helping out with camera shake when you are using a slow shutter speed or having to hold onto a long telephoto lens.

it doesn't stop motion blur (when the object is moving) as some people think.

I turn it off most times (personal preference)…unless I really need it…it can use up some battery power.

Please explain ‘Image Stabilization: Optical’. I am going to stop by Best Buy in the near future. I appreciate your insight.

hey easy 2love!

blur is sometimes good in a photo...but when that's not what you want...increase the shutter speed

so far I've found the Panasonic DMC-TS10 to be a pretty good compact point and shoot camera

or if you want a little more zoom (and a lense that moves out) the Panasonic DMC-FH25 was nice!

check them out and see what you think!
