though most problems occur in the northern boarder towns...this warning was issued after a tour bus in Puerto Vallarta was robbed

yes crime can happen anywhere...but i still feel very safe in Mexico...even more so than in the US! Smile

I also heard about that, but was reassured that any potential problems occur in the outlying border areas.  The resort itself is very secure, as all Olivia resorts are.  I trust them to take the utmost precaution when it comes to the ladies of Olivia's safety.

We sent an email to our Olivia rep about this topic, and got back reassuring information.  The resort itself is totally secured, and any vendors they use are reputable as well.  The drive from the airport is only 30 minutes.  We have traveled on several Olivia trips and felt completely secure.  It's true that crime can happen anywhere and it's best to be alert and aware of your surroundings wherever you go.

My brother just got back from PV on Sunday. He rented a house outside of there and had zero issues.  He said there was a heavier presence of law enforcement and military on the roads. I am sure Olivia is aware of these issues and all we be fine.

We travel to Mexico quite often and find it to be a safe and very friendly country to travel in!

Most of the warnings you'll hear about are the border towns and usually between the cartels.

Yes there have been a few robberies of some tourist groups…but those are rare…especially when you compare the # of incidences to the millions who visit Mexico each year.

I think the reports of violence are extremely overblown…you can have crime anywhere…anytime…by anyone.

And not that we're talking murder…but just to show you…FBI statistics show the murder rate per 100,000 inhabitants in Detroit is 47, Baltimore is 43, New Orleans is 39 and Washington D.C. is 29.  Mexico is 10 per 100,000

Just use your common sense anywhere you travel...we should all be fine!

So...here's to seeing you soon in beautiful Mexico!!!

Does anyone know anything about the travel warning to Mexico issued on March 8, 2012?  Should we be concerned?  This is our first time in Mexico and we really don't know what to expect and got a little scared when we heard the warning being issued.Confused
