In 2008, the snorkel gear was very basic, no special lenses.  Also, you can only rent during the time the snorkel shack is open....If you bring your own snorkel gear, you can snorkel anytime and in other spots than the snorkel shack...Although the reefs by the shack are good....further down the road closer to the restaurant and nightclub is where the tourists from Aquaworld snorkel...I did that area one day and it was also very good...so if you are not really a snorkeler the shack is great if you are experienced , bring your own equipment....just my thoughts

Does anyone know if the snorkel gear you can rent from Club Med includes the kinds that are more-or-less corrected for vision?  I'm nearsighted, and was happy that the snorkel rental place my family got gear from in Maui had some corrected lenses.

I know you guys are full, but if anyone drops out, I would LOVE to join you on this excursion!

FYI: before we set the date, we had 18 people that were interested.  this boat will only take 16, so please let me know if you would like to come along.  Club med offers something similar that could take more people, but it runs about $100 each.

We are planning to charter a private catamaran on Monday May 17 (thought this would give us a chance to meet some friends early in the week).  Of course the boat trip listed on the website is currently unavailable due to maintenance.  They could not guarantee the boat would be available by May, but they quoted me two other options on another boat.  this one charges an additional fee for snorkeling ($4) and open bar ($15) but is still less expensive than other group trips and this one will be just for us!  I'm assuming if you do not wish to partake in snorkeling or drinks you can just subtract those fees.

Meet at Imperial Las Perlas Hotel in cancun for departure (any time of our choosing)

Snorkeling

Sail to Isla Mujeres for shopping/lunch

Sail back to cancun

 

Half day/4 hours (prices include open bar and snorkeling fees)

We are very excited that so many of you seem interested in our little boat trip!  As of right now we have 14 that have expressed interest.  Just to recap, the prices I quoted are for the 15 person boat (~$30 each with a full boat), however, they do offer bigger boats if more people want to come along.  So here's what I'm going to do: I'm going to keep watching the posts up until a month before the trip and see about how many people might be joining us.  I can then call and get a quote for the boat we need, and we can all try to agree on when to go and what to do (remember this is a private charter...the boat, crew, booze and equipment is all ours, no rules or set itineraries!).  If anyone has any questions or anything you can email me at ktelledge@hotmail.com

Just so you all know…there is also a great protected reef snorkeling area right there on the Club Med property.  

You can also use their snorkeling gear if you don't want to haul along your own.  We went almost everyday last year!
