Yes, that's actually very common. They put shark nets around entire islands in the public beaches which you would never know are there until you swim up next to one.

If you ever took a two seater plane over the ocean and flew very low, you would be amazed...there are actually sharks and large critters all around that you see from above and that no one on the ground can see. (Ive done it on many occasions; my dad flies his own plane and my parents live on the beach)

Sharks dont like people though and hate the taste of them even more (that's why they bite surfers and relese once they get a taste..they THINK they are seals from how they look below

We are going to areas FULL of fish and good things for sharks to eat so they are gonna stay hidden during the day and they come out at night to feed. Dont worry over sharks or think there are certain beaches where they are; it's really not like that.

As a diver, I have seen a few sharks up close...all of whom immediately dashed in a cave and hid or swam as fast as they could away from me.  I have been as close to a shark as this computer screen is to my face. I wanted more to do with him that he did me and he freaked and ran. he he

Turst me, sharks dont have any use for people unless they are famished...which is why shark attacks on these beaches are so rare; they have tons of fish to eat and they can wait til the sun goes down to feed.

Yes, sharks can get stupid but most heavily touristed islands take measures to prevent them coming in close...such as the nets. While there will be several out in the deeeeep waters, they would only venture in anywhere you will be (including the reefs etc) if they were famished during the day and following a school of fish...and there are too many fish around these islands for them to need to do that in brouad daylight. They'll wait til dusk and start eatin'.

OH!! Except Nurse sharks...they sometimes do come in during the day but they only eat plankton. They look mean but would only gum you to death. he he..they dont eat meat

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

ps Plus, if you saw the photo Lesberado posted, you know they look like kittens in the islands anyway. he he

Hey, question:

ya think the net to keep the "other marine life" out of the area means sharks???

I considered it, but thoroughly doubted my ability to be ready to be anywhere at 8:30 am on an island while on this trip. So just keep some hungry for us, no matter how hard they beg

Im very glad we TRIED to organize the zipline tour even though it didn't happen as planned outside of the the HAL booking...because now there are so many fun people interested who DID book it  online that it's now a way better experience anyway! At least it got us all talking about it.

Nooooo, I am so far behind!  I guess I need to spend the weekend reviewing the message boards and the HAL site or I will be lost!  Good thing I have educated friends to chat with!
