Brighton is known as 'London by the Sea' and the gay capital of UK.

It is due south of London on the coast and one hour by train from London.

Very gay friendly and high gay population, and my partner lives there.

Good theatre, concert, museum, restaurant selections, a pier and the fabulous Brighton Pavilion.

I haven't visited San Sebastian but there is a ferry that goes from the south coast of England to northern Spain which is a journey we plan to do one day. http://www.brittany-ferries.co.uk/ferry-routes/ferries-spain/plymouth-santander?gclid=CJ6xkKe1hrMCFSTKtAodYBwA_Q

But if you want to include France and you have the time to split your journey up train would be one option and driving another.

Re trains you could

1)train from Edinburgh to London. http://www.thetrainline.com/buytickets/ is one train ticket company www.nationalrail.co.uk is another.

3)Paris to San Sebastian, (with changes).

Wow! How generous of you. We have never been to London or Brighton and I'm sure I will have many questions for you. I know we will be traveling at the end of our trip from Scotland to northern Spain (San Sebastian) to visit a dear friend. If you could give me any info about the best way to travel I would really appreciate it. We really don't want to fly because we would like the opportunity to see some of England and France on our way there.

We are not on the trip but if anyone is planning to visit London or Brighton (our home town) and wants information or advice feel free to contact us.

One tip, it is during our main school holidays so booking accommodation in advance is highly recommended.
