For the last Olivia cruise, which was very rough seas (unfortunately) as we were ahead of a storm front, I was very happy to have brought Meclizine and my favorite-Ginger caps. Whole Foods or any other store with natural supplements sell the ginger and I swear by it. On the cruise when it was less than comfortable I took 2 ginger pills 3 times a day and a meclizine in the morning and one at night if I was struggling. Never got sick, and the build up of meclizine in my system meant I was not tired after the second or third pill. Perhaps, consider pre-treating with the "sleepy pills"-dramamine, bonine etc. and get them to build up so you can tolerate and adjust to the sleepy effects!

As a side note--the TV Show "Mythbusters" did a special on motion sickness. The item that worked best for several of the participants who were put into different motion sickness producing situations, was GINGER. In the experiments they tried dramamine, the patch, and other remedies and many agreed Ginger was a top choice. Even though there is no empirical evidence of Ginger being a remedy, holistically many of my friends and family also enjoy the benefits of Ginger. I would personally say the only thing I don't like about the ginger is a little heartburn--but drinking more water when I take the pills usually solves that problem.

Best wishes and see you out there. We'll be on the 2nd 40th anniversary cruise and so excited to get away!

Pam

Re: Seasickness....

I am living proof that the Bonine motion sickness tablets really work! I get sick watching a race on tv let alone on water! Took one tablet in the morning & was good all day...even in a rocky storm! Then one occationally at bedtime if the sea was rough. They are amazing pills....never made me sleepy, works all day....not for only a few hours like Dramamine. Did make me alittle more hungry than usual, but there was plenty of food! So get your BONINE ready for your trip....I always brought extra for some who didn't know that they would get motion sickness.

                                                                                                                                       Cindy

Re: Seasickness....

Hello Everyone!

Thanks for your responses! Seasickness was my major fear in doing a cruise, but I figured it was time to give it a try! I will be taking these recommendations and be ready just in case. Monique and I are so excited to be able to have a week relaxing with no responsibilities or children (not that we won't miss them!). I look forward to meeting everyone.

I used the wristband 24/7 and OTC motion sickness pills. I also saw a doc before the cruise and took a persciption patch with me just in case- which I didn't use. I was fine the whole time! However, my spouse quit taking the otc meds and lost an evening of whale watching! So take precations if you are prone to motion sickness and stick with it! Nancy (the shorter one)

Re: Seasickness....

Hey Monique & Megan!
The location you pick on the ship is good for people who tend to get motion sick
I don't get seasick at all...but some people are prone to seasickness on even smooth water
My GF who's a Doc and gets both motion and seasickness likes taking Ginger Root Caps
Here are some seasick / motion remedies people use and like...with little or no side effects
Wristbands
