I got the Cris Williamson album called 'The World Around' released in 1966. She sings: Gifts Are For Giving, The First Time Ever, Cocaine Blues, Georgie, Mr. Tambourine Man, Daddy, You've Been On My Mind, The Coming Of the Roads, Nobody Knows You When You're Down And Out, The Last Thing On My Mind, The Very Last Day and Changes. This info is printed on the album "Back in 1963 a couple friends at local radio station KWYO came to me with an audition tape that stopped me in my tracks; it was 16 year old Cris Williamson's first recorded sound and I was impressed. Because of her, Avanti Records was formed and because of Avanti, Cris has, I like to think, been given impetus for greater achievement."

Re: Cris Williamson

I come here...and I enjoy reading your Cris, Meg, and early women's music info, even though I don't post often...so please continue....really...please? :)

Kathi

Re: Cris Williamson

Doubt anyone comes here now but at this time tomorrow night I hope to be the owner the the 3rd album Cris Williamson did in the mid 60's. Just wondering how many own the first 3 albums she did in the early 60's. I would guess 10 people in this world. Golly, who will I leave them to when I move on? One of the songs is Nobody Knows You When You're Down And Out. That was number 50 on the Billboards 100 by Bessie Smith in the 20's. If you don't hear from me again, I got it!

Re: Cris Williamson

Just reading a Hot Wire Magazine featuring Cris W. 1989. She owned some land/pasture (no home as yet) at age 42 and had a saddle. The horse was next in line. "I'm on the road to my dreams." CW She and I have at least one thing in common. She liked to clean her crick. I like to clean my river. Did you know Cris was not her given name at birth?

Re: Cris Williamson

Our paths have crossed.

Re: Cris Williamson

So let me go out on a limb here and say I bet you kind of like Chris Williamson. Congrats on gettting the album. That is so cool.<strike></strike>

Re: Cris Williamson

OH GOD...OH WALY WALY

Re: Cris Williamson

Dang...So excited, made two mistakes. Will play it after this message. She was 17 and I wish I could share the photo of her on the back. The face is the same but very young. The hair is another matter . These are the songs she sings: Lily Of The West, White Dove (her lst song written), Hangman, Suliram, Rider, Oh Waly Waly (can't wait to hear that one), Manha De Carnival, All My Trails, 500 Miles, West Wind (her 2nd song written), The House Of The Rising Sun , Delia's Gone and What Have They Done To The Rain. This last song was written by Malvina Reynold and was also sung by someone Cris admired greatly...Joan Baez. The following are a few of her words printed on the album "This, them, is the album. I don't know yet if I have a "style" of my own, but I have always tried to be myself - whatever that is! I have decided that I will always be Cris Williamson whether I am singing an Elizabethan ballad, or about a chain gang. I try to put myself into everything I do, and make it mine. If this is a style, then so be it.

That pretty much describes Cris IMO. OK...The rest of today I will spend with one of the two women who changed my life.

Re: Cris Williamson

My second copy of A Step At A Time came today. The sound is far better than my first record. Can't wait! About a half hour ago I won on EBay the first ever album released by Cris. I own the second but to have the first means so much. In celebratation of my treasure, I add something Cris said to Judyd back in the late 80's regarding Olivia. "Yeah, it was a pretty skin of the teeth there for a while. Judy and I sat looking at each other over the desk, saying, "Well, if she don't fly this year, let's you and me go out in the backyard and give her a decent burial. We can't let her be kicked around no more." So we agreed to do that and she...PHOENIX-LIKE...she rose to the occasion. Those words are by C.W.

And now after 40 years , Olivia rises to the occasion. Please bear with me for the next few weeks. I need to be here.
