no i wasn't a kid...i was around 15 or 16...i began living on my own at 13 and being Mexico was my father's country...i went off to explore it & found many beautiful places to see!!!

MellowD…I've heard the story about the area being picked by a computer…good pick!!

When I drown around Mexico as a kid in the late 60's…early 70's I just knew the area as the Yucatan…there was many a half dozen small hotels there where all the resorts are now…it's really changed fast!

This also might come in handy…last year in Cancun…Koko had her passport taken or lost it…anyway here's who you need to get a hold of to take care of those matters…just in case:

Sleddog -- heard Cancun was "computer" generated-picked to build up as a resort in the 70's. Did you come across that in your research? Regardless beautiful Maya Riviera coastal area. Can't wait

Might have something to do with Viracocha their God also known as the serpent god, with as many temples, pyramids in the area probably refers to him more than them..we can hope. Saw a few in the jungle in the park we went to in Belize, made a lot of hissing sounds sure was a grumpy snake.

Cancun's beaches have white sand, which is made from crushed coral and is not hot to the touch.

Cancun is home to the second largest coral reef in the world…the Great Mayan Barrier Reef. Australia’s Great Barrier Reef is the only one that is larger.

Before the city acquired its current name, Cancún was called Ekab, meaning "Black Earth". Cancún is the Mayan word for "nest of serpents" or "snake pit".

Cancun first appeared on maps in the 18th century and there were only 3 residents when development of the resort area started in January 1970. Now there are over 700,000 residents and over 24,000 hotel rooms, in Cancun's hotel zone.
