Just recently booked this trip and haven't even started to pack yet. Guess I better get my rear in gear. And thanks for the hints!

OK. The big suitcase shared between us is packed. It weighs just a bit over 37 pounds. We'll each have a carry on that just comes in under the dimensional limits, and one personal bag.

Getting very real now, isn't it?!

We're packed also. Did it yesterday. There may be a few changes, but for the most part, packed and ready. One huge suitcase to check with rain coats, boots, coats, etc. Each of us have a carry on. Did something different this trip though. We are going to buy shirts/T's/hoodie etc along the way, and we are going to send stuff to laundry on board. This reduced our initial poundage, at least for the way out, and we have plenty of room in our carryons for whatever we buy on the trip. Nevertheless, we are packed and chomping at the bit!!

We packed yesterday because we'll be working all this week and 4:30 Saturday morning (our departure from home to Philly airport) will be here in no time! The layering is tight on the suitcase poundage. We each packed one suitcase and when we weighed them, one was 57 lbs and the other 37. We had to move some things around to stay under the 50 lb limit each imposed by the airline. Souveniers will have to go in our carry-on for the way back home. Never had this issue before but I guess because we needed to prepare for warm, cool, rain, and hikes on the glacier. Oh how very exciting! We're PACKED!! See you soon. Bet & Michele

Here's the packing list from the Olivia Alaska Facebook page…and no…you do not need to pack everything on it

Packing requirements for a cruise to Alaska vary depending on activities, as well as your own personal needs. Try to pack clothing that is re-usable, can be wore more than once. If you're planning to buy t-shirts, hats, etc. on the ship or at ports, why not wear them on the cruise and pack less to begin with. And, it's always best to dress in layers for Alaska…be prepared for anything!

Travel Documents and Identification

Airline tickets or e-ticket confirmation

Cruise documents

Passports, Visas (if necessary)

Driver's license and auto insurance card - if you decide to rent a car

Medical insurance cards and medical history (especially if traveling alone)

Credit cards, ATM card (call credit card companies before traveling to alert them you are traveling outside your normal area)

Pre-paid phone card

Cash or traveler's checks

3 copies of airline tickets, cruise tickets, passports/visas, itinerary (pack 1 copy in carry on, 1 copy in checked luggage, and leave one copy with someone at home)

Contact numbers to report lost/stolen credit cards

Emergency numbers at home

Leaving Home Checklist

Have the post office hold your mail

Stop your newspaper or any deliveries, or have a friend or neighbor take them in for you

Have a friend or neighbor keep a look-out for your home while gone.

Put some lights on timers for the appearance that someone is home.

Leave copies of your passport, airline tickets, travelers checks and any credit cards you plan to use with a family member or trusted friend

Bring your travel and health insurance information and have it handy at all times

Distribute your ship communications cards to friends and relatives in case of emergency

Place a card with your name and address inside your luggage, as well as on the outside

Verify that your identification and travel tickets are in your carry-on bag and available at all times
