Speaking of the view from the ship, we depart at 4 pm and within 4 hours we will be in Discovery Passage which is a channel between Vancouver Island and the Discovery Islands (a chain of 6,000 islands). It is 25 km (16 mi) in length and is typically about 2 km (1.2 mi) in width, less at Seymour Narrows which lies in the lower half of Discovery Passage. Because of the strong tides in these channels and the narrowness, cruise ships have to time their arrival just right. The area is home to approximately 150 orca whales during the summer months. Hopefully light will last long enough for us to see some of these sights either on our way north or on our way south.

Susan (who saw a grey whale spouting and breaching on Sunday off Port Renfrew on Vancouver Island).

And if anyone is interested, about 1 hour out of Vancouver on the port (left) side of the ship you can see our house. H & G
