Thanks Sled. I'll pass this on. I can see a trip to the liquor store in my future !! Personally, neither Cindy or I drink much wine. She prefers Pendleton and me, some sort of shot of something or other LOL. If we are going to drink, we usually opt for the "Drink of the Day". Can't wait for that tree mail to find out what it's gonna be

Holland America On - Board Alcohol Packages

You can buy alcohol for your own room consumption either from Ship Services (1-800-541-1576) or from room service when you get on the ship or from HAL online under Indulgences (after we get our booking # 1 month prior to the cruise from Olivia).

Alcohol and Spirits bottles are 1 liter size (the 15% gratuity is included).

HAL also sells Wine Packages (3, 5 & 7 bottles)…not sure of the cost for the wine.

Diana...No heart attacks allowed!
Yes...if we are taking wine and/or soda aboard we buy it from whatever store nearby...pack it well (most wine store have cardboard wine boxes)...include name/cabin number on it and hand it off to the luggage porters at the cruise port...so far it has always made it aboard safe and sound!

Off topic - re alcohol: found this on Holland America website - makes me want to abstain! This is a shock after our Azamara Journey experience.

Can I Bring Alcoholic Beverages Onboard?

Except for wine and champagne, guests cannot bring hard alcohol on board for private consumption. Hard alcohol purchased on board in the duty free shops or in port will be collected, stored for safekeeping and delivered to your stateroom on the last day of the voyage.

Guests can bring wine and/or champagne on board at embarkation or purchased in port. A corkage fee of US$18.00 applies to wine and champagne brought to the shipboard restaurants or bars for consumption. Wine and/or champagne brought on board cannot be consumed in any public venue. If a guest is drinking a beverage carried on board and in a public venue they will be asked to return it to their stateroom.

Room Service offers reduced-price stateroom beverage packages for in-stateroom consumption of alcoholic beverages. A 15% Service Charge on all beverage items and packages with beverages will be added.

Sled, do you usually buy wine/liquor and then take in on board? Is that the way to go for wine drinkers? We have at least 1 in our group and she wants to know since she about had a heart attack when you posted the liquor prices on board

FYI For the ladies staying at the Holiday Inn Express, No. 6 Road, Richmond, BC (this location is close to No. 6 Rd. and Steveston Hwy)........there is a BC liquor store called " Richmond Ironwood " at 3170 - 11666 Steveston Hwy in the Ironwoor Mall for those looking for some added libation aboard and sample some BC wines. It would be a short cab ride from H. I. as it is just West of No. 5 Rd. (also other restaurants & shopping around the area as well but don't know the details)

Do the grocery shops like Whole Foods sell wine in Canada like they do in Florida? The laws are different in the US from state to state, so not sure how it rolls in Vancouver?

There aren't a lot of grocery type place close to the cruise port, so you will have to go to Robson, Denman, Davie........but any grocery store will have a "whole foods" section. There is a Safeway on both Robson (at Denman) and on Davie (really close to Little Sistes Book Store) and they will have a good selection of goodies. Actually the stroll down Denman and Davie will bring you to a ton of neat little shops. There is a Middle Eastern store called Ayoub's that sells 100's of varieties of dired furits, nuts and seeds. Great snacking stuff.

Whole foods actually bought Capers, and I think they have now changed the signs at the Robson location to the Whole Foods signs. Should be a good place to get things I don't want to (or can't) carry on the plane.

Diana...there's a Whole Foods type market called Capers on Robson Street near the cruise port…you'd probably find what you're looking for there...have never had any problems bringing snacks aboard
