GenXkid --- We've been reading and listening to the news about the unrest in Honduras too. We've also been following what people have said on a cruise review web site. One thing we've read is that so far Roatan and the other Bay Islands remain largely unaffected. People reported as recently as this month that their cruise ships were still stopping there and the curfews in place on the mainland were not applied to the islands.
Here's a link to a NJ paper of a story from someone who recently went to Roatan: http://www.jacksonnjonline.com/2009/09/16/the-hidden-gem-of-honduras/ It will be interesting to see what happens in Honduras' November elections.
You're right it is curious -- Holland America does have excursions under Roatan, Honduras, but not under Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Honduras. I don't know if that's because Mahogany Bay is a newer port or if that's a signal of something else.
Going for the glass half full --- I wish the people of Honduras peace and am still hoping to see their fish through my snorkel mask.
