Well here's some encouraging news from our "neck of the woods" (Odd expression, must check where it originated!)

This Thursday Gay Pride week starts in London, Ontario. Council voted & will hang the rainbow flag at City Hall for the whole week!!!

This is an amazing development in our very conservative city. 13 years ago the mayor refused to proclaim the Gay Pride Festival. She (And council) was subsequently fined for  discriminating against Gays & Lesbians. As a result, approx 2 weeks before the council elections, she pouted & went AWOL. Took off to her cottage to sulk. She won the election anyway & that makes me even more surprised that this week our flag is going to be flying!!!!!

Oh NAF, where are you? The Stanley Cup is coming to our town August 11th. If you want to see it come on over & share a brew with us. If not I guess you'll have to settle for a photo...of the cup I mean!!!!

It is not far from the U.S.A. and other parts of Canada. In fact, when I was partaking in the 1st Rosie Jones golf get-away package in Palm Springs this year I told Rosie and her girlfriend, Carrie that I thought Whistler would be a great location for one of their golf vacations. This beautiful town that I lived in for 15 years('86 - 2001)has many golf courses in the area and much to do when one is not golfing or has a partner that does not golf. So many great hotels and fine dining and fun pubs... gondola rides up 2 spectacular mountains, biking, hiking and dyking!!! You gals should come out this way sometime... and I will make sure I am not here(smile)... just kidding.

You have so many events to attend that sound wonderful!

In the place I am from, every Memorial Day Weekend was the "Bed Race". This consisted of teams of 5, 4 to push the bed on wheels down the street with 1 on the bed. Year after year, the decorations on the bed became more detailed and colorful. So much fun.

Happy Sunday to all... We just had our 1st week of summer. 25 - 30 degrees and absolutely beautiful. Today, it's cloudy but warm.
I'm off to the harbour to watch some final races of the Dragon Boats. What a fab event... with 75 teams from all over the Pacific northwest and further afield. There are at least a dozen paddlers per boat and sitting at the helm, facing the paddlers is the drummer. During the races, 3 to 4 boats at a time the drummers are beating their drums to the speed of the paddles. The women chant and encourage each other.... it gives one goose bumps. This w/ends event has grown to include thousands of spectators and mariners anchored out in the harbour.
Next w/end is the "silly boat" festival... all sorts of creations. The w/end after that is the world famous Nanaimo Bath Tub race. Yes, this town "rocks"... I love it here. Have good week everyone... Mary

For us, today, just relaxing. There are fireworks tonight but we don't normally go out to watch them. Celebrations here would probably be the same as your July 4th.

There's a big party on Parliament Hill in Ottawa that will be televised. It's the same old, same old, every year & I don't want to seem unpatriotic, because I sure love my country of choice, but we'll be watching the "Concert for Diana"!!
