I was just coming up with a "username" and thought Virginia Woof would be cool- I'm kind of literary (Virginia Woolf) and I LOVE dogs, so the idea for Virginia Woof was born. (I was actually surprised no one else had claimed it yet)
So, I'm registered on the site as Virginia Woof but use my name openly.
Are you Shorebirds secret?

Let me guess--looking for apple ermine? Our farmers use so many chemicals, I'm surprised the apples are still edible, let alone any living critters in them!

I do ornamentals, but I was the propagation manager at a place that specializes in edible ornamentals for a while. I just sent in an application to the state for a job similar to yours on this side, but looking for Phytopthera ramorum.

Hi Edye,
My Hort is fruit and veg. I inspect it all the way through the supply chain, from import to market or retail.
Actually been looking at apples from the US this afternoon and I'm going to be looking at them for the next few months..... jeez

Thanks for the explanation of skeet. Sounds fun!!!

Cartel - Earlier on the board as I was introducing myself, the northern california ladies were planning to get together for dinner. I commented that it sounded like they were organizing, and one of them cracked a joke about that, then I said I voted for field hockey... it sort of escalated from there. I pretended they were a sports team after that, then we were brainstorming what sport, and I suggested Full Contact Tackle Skeet. The question was then posed as to in what precise part of a skeet contest would tackling be allowed, and it was suggested that while shooting was a good option, as then onlookers could also be injured, thus sharing in the fun.

I forgot how dreadlocks and Rastalaskanauts came into play. I still think it's a good idea, though, because extra ammo could be stored in the dreadlocks, I think, except I don't know what kind of ammo is involved in skeet shooting, nor do I know really what a skeet is. I think it's a clay disc, but it might be an endangered species. We could award bonus points if members of PETA are chasing you with clubs while you're trying to shoot.

The gist is, the ladies from California are the Rastalaskanaut team sporting dreadlocks, and none of them have actually agreed to any of it-- we just made it up in jest. I think one or two people may have also become alarmed along the way while trying to follow the thread. :D

Hope that helps!

Wheeeeeeeee we purchased airfare yesterday, what a shock to the credit card. Flying out of Oakland on Alaska Air, connecting thru Portland and then into Vancouver, arriving at 2:25pm on Sept. 8. Then we are flying home from Anchorage Sept. 17 on the 10:15 flight.

Welcome, cartel! We are also shopping for a nice hotel in Vancouver. We are waiting for Olivia to post what the host hotel will be, and will consider staying there. We are also looking for a hotel in Anchorage after the cruise. Convenient and nice are what we are looking for.

Hi, VirginiaWoof...Lauren,

Why the name if it isn't a secret?

We love Rehoboth and that dream would be a lot of work and money, but you couldn't find a nicer place to open a B&B.

Tackle while you're shooting so everyone gets injured? You are obviously a true sportsperson to the core, kelliec! That is a FANTASTIC idea!! ;)

And hey, I never said the dreads had to be real! Your team could be the RastalaskaNauts!

NorCal Alaskanauts

Noon at the Frog it is. How about if the first ones there ask for a table for 6 under the name "Olivia?"

My hair is too short for dreadlocks but maybe I can talk Susan into it? Will her hair lock between now and September? May not be enough time! Ah she'd say no if she was here anyway, so never mind.

As to the tackle skeet, someone else tackles YOU while you are trying to fire, how about that? That way everyone can get injured, even the spectators.

Ahoy, Alaskanauts!
Cin& Jules- Cait & I are good with noonish. Kelli&Susan, does that work for you?

Dreadlocks? Count Cait & I out- our hair is way too short. Full contact skeet? Do we tackle before we fire or after?

Shorebirds- I have salt water running through my veins, and here I am landlocked in Sacramento! The natives say, "But we have two rivers here!" (To which I respond, "Whatever...")
I spent many summers at the Jersey, Delaware and Maryland shores- and actually rented a house there for a week last summer. There's something about the continental shelf that lends that unique aroma to the mid-Atlantic shorefront, although I've smelled it when the tide was out in coastal Washington state. My dream is to open a B&B in Rehobeth Beach. My niece was teaching in the Baltimore area a few years ago. She works in Columbia now and lives in Silver Spring and plays goalie on several women's ice hockey teams.

Cartel- no worries- you'll have a wonderful time. People don't just hang out in couples!

Lauren
