LOL Brew..and how fast is fast? I do get dizzy from time to time...and does the earth make an echo when it spins? Who would be around to hear that? o.k....waiting patiently for the answers to those deep questions.

bb, I had also posted about the duck's quack not echoing and was slapped with a wet noodle by an informed friend. So, after you mentioned it again, I did more research. Not something I normally give a quack about, but. . .

I too, am glad I'm not a female ferret! :)

I apologize for spreading false rumors about duck quacks not echoing. In fact, as I search about for tidbits to share, I realize that I depend on web sites that might not have spent sufficient time in research. This apparently is NOT the case for Olivia readers, who seem to be some of the most well-informed women on the net. You gals rock! And, I love the red hippo sweat alot. And, I'm glad I'm not a female ferret, although I did find my own little ferret in time! Happy trails you trivia maniacs.

The cheetah is the only cat that cannot retract its claws. The fastest cat,it is also the fastest land animal. It can reach 95 km/h (60 mph) over short distances. Unlike other big cats it does not roar - it makes high pitched yelps, barks and chirruping sounds. And like your kitty, it does purr.

Domestic cats purr at about 26 cycles per second, the same frequency as an idling diesel engine. A domestic cat hears frequencies up to about 65 kHz, humans up to 20 kHz. Its sense of smell is about 14 times stronger than that of humans.

There are more than 3000 types of domestic cats, but only 8% are pedigree. And, unlike other cats, they are found all over the world... in abundance. In the US, there are more cats than dogs, and people annually spend more on cat food than on baby food.

Cats step with both left legs, then both right legs when they walk or run. The only other animals to do this are the giraffe, camel and the maned wolf.

The word "queue" is the only word in the English language that is still pronounced the same way when the last four letters are removed.

Of all the words in the English language, the word 'set' has the most definitions!

"Almost" is the longest word in the English language with all the letters in alphabetical order.

Apparently, it is the job of Salford Acoustics. According to the University of Salford in Manchester:

"A duck's quack doesn't echo" is a much quoted scientific myth. In spring 2003 it was quoted on Home Truths on BBC Radio 4 and Shooting Stars on BBC 2. You can listen to our sound files on Home Truths by going to the BBC4 web site and "listening again". Recently, Salford Acoustics was the source of the story being presented in the national and international media when we proved that a duck's quack does echo as part of the British Association Festival of Science.

Do you ever wonder how they discover these things in the first place. Really now, whose job do you think it is to sit next to a duck and listen to see if its quack echos...LOL. You would have to be a quack I say.

When opossums are playing opossum, they are not "playing." They actually pass out from sheer terror.

The Mola Mola, or Ocean Sunfish, lays up to 5,000,000 eggs at one time.

A full-grown bear can run as fast as a horse.

All elephants walk on tip-toe, because the back portion of their foot is made up of all fat and no bone.

Camels have three eyelids to protect themselves from blowing sand.

It takes forty minutes to hard boil an ostrich egg.

Rhinos are in the same family as horses, and are thought to have inspired the myth of the unicorn.

It is possible to lead a cow upstairs but not downstairs, because a cows' knees can't bend properly to walk back down.

The fingerprints of koala bears are virtually indistinguishable from those of humans, so much so that they could be confused at a crime scene.

The placement of a donkey's eyes in its' heads enables it to see all four feet at all times.

A group of geese on the ground is gaggle, a group of geese in the air is skein.

A duck's quack doesn't echo, and no one knows why.

A female ferret will die if it goes into heat and cannot find a mate.
